Hi,
I'm a full blooded Alembic player but want to branch off with tap instruments. Does anyone have a 10 or 12 string Stick or Warr Guitar for sale or trade? I'd rather trade however would consider buying the right product at the right price. Something within driving distance of Boston for a face to face deal would be a plus.

I have a 12 string Warr Trey Gunn prototype, and while I've never played a Chapman stick I'd recommend a Warr for it's tonal versatility and tuning options.

Check out the Tappistry.org forums (http://www.tappistry.org/) for info on all types of tap instruments.

BTW, my Warr isn't for sale. Sorry.

I had a 10 str stick but I traded it in at Chapman for a 8 str stickbass with midi. I always wished I got the Warr guitar instead because the body would be more comfortable for me.Now I just play it sitting in a recliner watching TV!

Another vote for the Warr here !
I have a 12 string Artisan with Midi on the melody side. Just feels like an instrument to me. It is very personal but IMHO you should really try and get your hands on each one to try before stumping up your hard earned. I have played both and they are different. Good luck in your search. As well as the excellent Tappistry that neyman mentioned you might want to check out the forums at www.stickist.com, although this is almost totally Stick centred it's worth visiting. For great info on tunings and such I would suggest you pop over to www.clicmusic.be, this site is pretty even regarding instrument choice and contains loads of information.

Sorry mine isn't for sale either.

Cheers

I appreciate all the feedback guys! I "ordered" a Stick however it won't be even getting worked on for 3 to 5 months so i won't be putting a down payment on it until they tell me the work has started. I've played a BASS Stick in the past and was interested but wanted more range for chord work. Although I have one ORDERED until i make a down payment i can still back out so I'm still open to a Warr Guitar or something "new/used." As a side question, have any of you heard a Mobius Megatar? Personally i think they look bad and I'm not considering one however they have some nice features at a cheap price. Anyone have any experience with these?

Hi Ray,

I'm playing a Stick and it's a great instrument. Very comfortable to play and with the adjustable bridge you can change tunings as you like. What kind of PU did you order? I have the PASV-4 with a lot of different sounds.

Hi Harald
I ordered a new Stick from Chapman directly and it's coming with STICKUP pickups ... the standard non-active pickups. Although I placed an "order" I'm really just on a LIST until they start building it and call me for the down payment. And THAT won't be for another 3 to 5 months. So I'm still keeping my eyes open for a good deal on a used stick. I can always cancel my order anytime before I make the down payment. I just placed a bid on a GRAND STICK on e-bay. i won't know if I'll win the auction for another 6 days but if i do I'll save several hundred over a new stick and i'll simply call stick and cancel my new order. Also the e-bay stick is a grand stick and the one i ordered is a 10 string. i didn't want to pay the extra for a new GRAND STICK but it'll take it on a good deal for a used one. So wish me luck. One way or another by next summer at the latest I'll be an Alembic bass playing chapman Stick playing musician! (Just like you!)
By the way ... what model do you have? How long have you played a Stick? And did you get yours new or used?

Hi Ray,
there are Sticks for sale on Ebay sometimes. Looks like a nice one you're bidding. There's another 10-string but located in Italy. The 10-string looks like a newer one but the description is poor.
I play a 10-string rosewood extended scale. Got it new from SE last year. I had to wait about 4 months. It's a small company and therefore waiting time is long - like new ordered Alembics ;-)
I had a polycarbonat Stick from the 80's before and also a StickBass for a short time. All in all I play about 3 years but with full time day job and family I don't have the time for music I wished to have. So progress on Stick playing is slow, LOL.
So good luck for hunting a Stick on Ebay.
BTW: Sometimes SE have used Sticks too!

GERRRRRRRRRR Lost the bid on the Grand Stick on e-bay. I was top bidder and with 28 seconds left someone out bid me. Geesh ... what ever happened to the days when someone would want to sell an instrument, you'd make an offer, they'd say Ok and the transaction would be done? Oh well ... guess i'll have to wait the 8 months for my new one to be made!

Ray,
Sticks appear regularly on Ebay. Not very often but from time to time (like the Alembics).
This is a nice one:

The damned bidding services make it even worse. I feel your pain. Hopefully there will be another for you soon while there's one less interested buyer out there!

Thanks for the help and comments guys. Yeah that 2001 Stick looks nice. I'll be watching that one and IF I bid it'll be in the last 25 seconds of the auction! :-)
