I'm no expert but even with the logo and pickups I'm doubtful that's an Alembic. I mean I can write "Alembic" on my arm but that doesn't mean I'm Mica's love child, you know? | ||

I think that's one of the Japan Export models, there's some literature pics and a few examples on the board here somewhere. They don't usually surface here in the states. | ||

There are certain things here that make me doubt: 1) The neck is Bolt-on... Excuse me if I'm wrong, but Has Alembic made bolt-ons so far? And only three screws? 2) The tuner spacing at the peghead looks VERY suspicious to me, as well as the peghead's cut 3) What's with that bridge tailpiece? 4) No sandwich whatsoever on the neck? No laminate? One piece, quite plain wood chunk? 5) Truss rod cover/access on the peghead? 6) Those pickups can (surely) be Activators, and the gig bag looks legit, but then... I could put those on anything... Dunno... I'd say nay.... | ||

This was made by Rokkomann, Inc. in Japan for distribution only in Japan. We supplied the pickups, electronics and logos. This was made at a time when the yen to dollar exchange rate was like 245:1. I believe there were only 50 or 100 made. | ||

Hi Mica! I was just getting ready to post this from you: "Tuesday, August 26, 2008: Never seen a shop night one, and we've never made one, so I'm not sure what you saw - maybe a one-off tribute to the Series I? I've seen lots of basses sprouting little points, so it's completely possible. Also, we always use our own pickups/electronics. The ones that Rokkomann licensed were bolt-on necks and they were made in their shop in Japan for sale in Japan only, though they are scattered around the world now. Wow.... well, then I'll have to assume there is always room for surprise. Still, I could argue that sporting Alembic electronic and logos, although legit, doesn't make it "An Alembic". Or I could simply say I don't like it. Not even close to the Alembics I've known. And I'd rather stay that way.  | ||

Right , I understand that Jazzy, I know my views aren't universally shared, I could see a hemp/nylon Alembic bag that doesn't promote speciesism . Phasing out the Leather would progress in my eye. Let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater. | ||

Jazzyvee, I know the feeling......  After that, I contracted with a guy who used to work at Reunion Blues (ironically, the guy I bought the red bag from) who was starting a new company. I put him in contact with Alembic and I think he was supplying leather bags to Alembic for a while. I recall seeing them in the store. Ran into a bassist while on vacation at Hilton Head last year. He had his 6-string Balance K Signature in one of those bags. I knew it was an Alembic from a mile away.   | ||

I guess this says a ton about where I've played, but after having a hard shell case protect my face when someone through a punch at me while our band was attempting to extricate itself from a gig in the midst of a closing time fight at the bar at which we were playing, I'd never go out in to the community (at least at the places where I've played) with a leather or any other soft case. The hard shell version has offered protection for both my bass, and just as importantly, me. | ||

I had to use once my Kramer Duke (Headless bass, Steinberger XL lookalike, "normal" small tuners on the body's low end instead of double ball system) as a spear to poke and get rid of a drunken fellow trying to get to sing right on the lead singer's headset microphone (almost kissing her), all the way while I was also playing and singing backing vocals, at the same time blocking access to my microphone with my right ankle to prevent another drunk guy from "singing" through it, and with my right leg over the monitor (Iron Maiden's Steve Harris-like) to block another guy from passing under my microphone's boom stand to also reach the singer. It ended in some sort of "dance" that I'd only wish somebody had recorded... | ||
