Very interesting bass on eBay. It's painted red, but the controls are bolted to a removable Koa wood plate. Also, the fretboard is Pao Ferro and it looks like a set-neck. Serial Number: 08C13863USA

I've seen quite a few of those in the past on Japanese web sites but not many elsewhere so I have a feeling they could have been a model that Alembic provided for the Japanese market or maybe their distributor there requested that custom look. Interesting look though. Jazzyvee |

The Japanese ones I've seen have all had brass plates; I'm thinking Adam. Peter |

I believe this Spoiler ,and another that is powder blue, belonged to a member who passed away last year. His widow sought advice in the forum on selling them. i may be wrong, but it looks just like it. Karl |

This bass was made as personal custom. Here it is ! http://alembic.com/club/messages/631/46757.html. The red guitar in Japan is personal modified Distillate Japan export model. Eiji |

Yep, I was right - it's one of Adam's customs. Thanks for the link, Eiji. He's had some beauties built (my fave is the batwing). Peter |

I loved watching Adam's basses get built. I think my favorite was his daphne blue one. http://alembic.com/club/messages/631/19065.html?1152566682 IIRC, the sell of of his basses was after he realized he preferred a different scale length. I believe he posted on here a year or two ago stating that. He did so in one of the 'Seen on ebay' threads where one of his basses was being sold. I'd dig it up, but my search tools when it comes to this forum are sorely lacking. |
