Still a beautiful piece of craftsmanship, but I couldn't see anyone paying the asking price without the Alembic guts. |

I always associate those greyish shades of brown with walnut. Koa seems to have more orangy shades of brown, but I can understand the association. |

Whatever the wood, that guy is smoking dope at that price! Without the original hardware I don't think even the Skylark Zealots on the site would pay that much for a 100% non-original guitar. |

Hey now, watch that zealot talk . . . And yes, even I would not pay that much for it (even if it had the original electronics). It is a beautiful guitar otherwise though.

This appears to be an Electrum. Not only has it had the electronics gutted, but it is also a set-neck Electrum. A bit unusual as most were neck-thrus. I'm sure Mica, Val, or Susan could provide the low down on set neck Electrums (I have heard of them, usually as special order, I believe). The seller's starting bid is substantially more than I paid for my '83 Electrum this past summer (neck-thru with '93 electronics done at the factory - volume/pan/filter/Q-switch). As you can see from my post in showcase, mine is in excellent condition and, if I may say so myself, was quite a good deal. http://alembic.com/club/messages/411/12743.html?1095369307 This one on e-bay, I suspect, will come around again at a lower price. If I were interested I would ask the seller if they still have any of the original guts and then I'd check with Alembic on the price to bring it out of intensive care and render it healthy again. All in all if you have $2000 and you want an Alembic guitar, keep looking, you can do better than this one IMHO. Bill, tgo

This is its 2nd or 3rd time around on ebay. That tells me something is wrong with the guitar on some level. A lot of players like Duncan pick-ups and wouldnt mind the switch as much as we see here, but there is still something amiss with a guitar Ive seen on ebay at least twice and I believe 3 times now. I also believe this person is asking more for this guitar than he paid on ebay, which always annoys me to no end, even though its their right to ask what they want for their guitars. |
