Weird. Wanted to post. Can't imagine the Mothership doing this.

Well, I hate to disappoint you, but that's the only way you could mount those Schallers as second and third on a four string cone headstock. They function perfectly. Perhaps if the bass does a lot of traveling, either of the tuners might rotate a little, but nothing that a little handiwork couldn't correct.

That's the twin sister of my '88 Spoiler! :-)

I did this to the new Schallers I installed on my '88:

quote:

I used a heavy belt sander for those poor Schallers, though I may shaved of a tad too much it works! :-)

Keeps them a little better in place, they can drift apart a little (as you can see in longhorncats picture)
Not really a problem since eventually they will anchor each other and if they're installed tight enough (not too tight, you don't want to crack the headstock) they will stay in place properly.

Mica/buyer alert: Serial number is not completely disclosed (85 S 35XX)
85 S 3512 is in the Stolen section of the main Alembic site.
There is also a Bocate Spoiler in the Serial number request section with number 85S3530, could very well be that or another one
(I have no more 85S35XX with Spoiler bodyshape in my -very incomplete- list)
