Back in July I acquired a bass off of Ebay that had Series I electronics. I bought it for the electronics, thinking that I might eventually put them in something else. However, since I've recently acquired a Series I bass, I no longer have any need for this set of electronics. I only played the bass a couple times. The first time I plugged it in was the first time I had played a bass with Series electronics and I thought they sounded wonderful. As you can see from the pictures, the cavity is not shielded, so there was a lot of RF noise. The bass itself, I don't care for. It appears to be a home-made bass. Yes, there is a five pin connector; it's hard to see in the pictures I took, but you'll notice it's been side mounted. I don't know what kind of bridge that is, but it seems a bit more substantial than the standard Fender type. The one-piece body looks like it was an attractive piece of wood at one time. The neck is a nice looking one-piece Birds-eye Maple. As you can see in the picture, someone took a knife to it to make it fit the body. Some of you in this group build your own basses; and you may think that the neck and/or bridge have some value. Some of you woodworkers may even think you can do something with the body. But the main thing here is the Series electronics.

Hi Dave, Yes, I know it on eBay. It was very impressive with old electronics "PF-6". Please let me know your asking price. |

Eiji; I haven't really set a price yet, I thought I would first see if anyone was interested. The bass is a bit heavy and I would imagine the shipping to Japan would not be inexpensive. Michael; in fact it was your post that first brought it to my attention! And I just found and reread the email that you sent to me at the time. Oh and I forgot to mention; there is no case. |

I've received some correspondence on this, and have given some more thought to it as a result. I would like to get at least what I paid for it; and I paid $600 plus shipping costs. Since not all the club members read the board everyday, I'm thinking I should give it a few days to give everyone a chance to see the post. I don't want to instigate a bidding war, so perhaps the best thing is that if you are interested, email me what you would feel comfortable paying for it. Also, let me know if you want the bass or just the electronics. I was just looking at the bass; and if I have to take the electronics out, it will require some effort on my part. For instance, it does not appear that I can remove the side mounted 5 pin jack without cutting or desoldering the wires (and I am not skilled with a soldering iron); and it is not immediately clear how the hum-cancelling pickup is removed. However, it will obviously be easier and less expensive to ship without the bass. I'm thinking I would then just give the bass away locally. As is generally the case, shipping would be the responsibility of the buyer. One other note. For those of you who do not already know, you can not just drop a set of Series electronics in a non-Series Alembic. According to Mica and Val, the bodies of most non-Series Alembics are not thick enough to accomodate the Series electronics. There are exceptions; I believe the Brown Basses are thick enough, and some Custom basses are built anticipating a future upgrade to Series. One person suggested that perhaps a new control cavity cover plate could be built out that would provide the extra room needed. And I suppose there are other ideas like adding a new top or back laminate. Personally, I would love to find a Rogue or Europa that had been gutted and send it and the Series electronics out to Santa Rosa. But I've got enough on my plate for now and I'm happy with my S1. Another thought; those of you planning on ordering a new bass, but for whom new Series electronics would be too expensive, I suppose you could ask Mica about installing this set and having the upgrade done. And even one more note. Most of you already know this. As with any older used Series bass, there may be some amount of RF noise; and the amount of noise will vary with location. Since the cavity on this bass is not shielded, it is not possible for me to know how quiet this set of electronics is. I did just now sit down and play the bass and found that, RF noise being directional, facing in one direction the bass seemed pretty quiet. And it sounded great!! |

Do you want to seperate the electronics from the bass? What is the bass worth or actually what are the electronics worth less the bass? I'd love to get the electronics but really don't want to mess with the bass. Do you need a bass cabinet? Acme 2x10+ mid and horn? Or? Sig 979-277-9406 |

Hi Sig; I would rather discuss the fine details by email rather than an open forum. As stated above, I will remove the electronics from the bass if that is what the buyer wishes. There have been several long and entertaining discussions in our forum about what things are "worth". I believe it has been generally agreed that things are worth what the highest bidder is willing to pay. Perhaps some of the other members of this group may wish to suggest what they think a set of Series I electronics are worth. I purchased this set with "Buy it now" off Ebay as soon as I saw it, since I believe they are "worth" a lot more than what I paid, especially considering how much these things go for new. I already have an Acme Series II B-2; and though I don't really need another one, I would be willing to consider one, in excellent condition, as part of your offer. |
