This bass just appeared on eBay. There's very little wood data provided, and what's there is probably not accurate. The shape of the bass looks a little bit off to me. Maybe it's the pics or simply a feature of a handmande instrument.

I see your radar is up again Bob. I had just come straight from eBay to here, and it was not up when I was there, and I only check 'alembic' these days. I knew I had seen this bass before. It is/was owned by member Bigbass, but is not being sold by him, as I know his eBay user name. If more information is wanted, ask Bigbass about the instrument.

Here are the links to 'mentions' of this bass here:

Bsee - No, it is not the pictures. That bass is one of the earlier ones. The cutaways were a bit "softer" than the ones now. The upper horn is fatter, and the point is more rounded.

I have pictures of this bass somewhere when it had tan pickups.

He mis-listed it the first time, so it got dropped and re-listed in there.

Michael, are you saying the pickups have been replaced, or could they just have been recovered/recolored? Might the black be a sign that this bass has had the electronics upgrade?

I am still looking for the pic of the bass with the brown pickups. I am almost positive it is the same bass. I remember the serial number because I remember it being one off from #60. Anyway, it could have had the upgrade! But, if you look at the bridge pickup, it seems that it was filed down on the bridge side to fit the hole. I would suspect that if the bass was at Alembic for the upgrade, they would have made a cast of the proper pickup size. I could be wrong, but that pickup looks filed down to me.

I've never dealt with that seller, but I've seen that bass and his auctions before. If memory serves (for once) it was put up two or more years ago and failed to make reserve. The seller pereodically lists batches of desirable instruments--consignment, perhaps?
