Boy this hurts... but the economy finally beat me down.
I'm selling my 1981 Distllate with factory HSC. I bought it used about 12 years ago at a local GC. The top is flame koa, the body is mahogany and the neck is maple with purpleheart lams. The wood by the input jack is cracked, but hasn't worsened since I bought it. The filter circuit is touchy (will "bark" if rotated rapidly) but slow moves don't bother it.

It was a "working man's" (doofus') bass and has seen some rough use in the past from the previous owner. There's a hologram eye glued to the headstock and the brass backplate had a little piece cut to allow the power leads to come out (since returned to normal battery operation). I've installed blue FretFX leds, which can be removed.

The bass is equipped with straplocks and a wide black Alembic strap.

I'll include a spare set of Tomastic Infeld Jazz Flats and the original strap pins. I'd prefer to sell locally (Chicagoland), or else the buyer must pay for packing and shipping. I'm asking $1500 obo.

Also must sell my 1973 Guild Starfire II bass in natural mahogany with a rosewood fingerboard.

I ordered this wired in stereo from the Guild factory in 1972, and will include two y-cords (1/4' rts - 2 standard 1/4"). I also had the frets removed in 2000 and replaced with maple ghost frets. The original case is in very rough shape, held together with black duct tape. Again, I'd prefer to sell locally, or else the buyer must pay for packing and shipping. I'm asking $1500 obo.

My email is maddymansr@gmail.com.

Thanks for looking,
Mike

Oh Man, we were just conversing on the Fret LED's. So sorry about the tough times you’re having. Tough enough to sell these beauties. If it's any consolation I know if Nick gets one it will be in good hands.
Hoping you find peace

Which one are you going for, Nick? The Starfire sure is pretty, so I'm guessing that's the one. Amazing wood grain and it looks like it's in excellent shape.

I had one like this that I put Bartolini triple coil pickups in that sounded really cool. Sold the bass, kept the pickups, but they are somewhere in a box these days. Later I went into a used instrument shop here in Boulder and the bass was sitting there completely trashed, inlays fallen out, all beat up and the price tag was astronomical. I never went into that shop again. It's so sad to see that happen, like running into a friend who's become homeless with an expensive drug habit.

What do you want for those p-up's Edwin? Yes, I am going for the Starfire. I would love to bend your ear for a while on this bass. I would like to replace and save the old p-ups due to the fact they are not bisonic or Dark Stars. I have 2 stratblasters and the SF-2. I think I can get a good sound out of this one. The plus is that it is already wired for stereo! My brother will be picking it up this weekend, for me, if all goes well. I would love any advice about setting up the SF-2 for this bass from anyone!

Good luck with the sale, Mike. If the timing was different, I'd take that Distillate off your hands in a heartbeat.

Sorry to hear about the tough times, Mike. You're not alone. I've always like that SF a lot - sounds like it'll get a good home.

Now the Distillate -- I've heard that bass live and it rocks!! It's a killer deal for whoever is thinking about it. If timing were different I'd take it myself. It won't last long at that price.

Here are some additional shots of the Distillate:

The "infamous" eye, glued on tightly, headstock will probably need a refinish when removed (that's why I left it).
the eye

The crack in the top runs from behind the volume control to either side of the input jack. It has not worsened since I bought the bass (I'm careful with my input cord, it loops through my strap at the bottom).
crack1
crack2
I removed the bridge and tailpiece and had them polished by a jeweler about a year ago.

When the previous owner tried to externalize the power, they gouged a gap in the electronics cavity and filed a space in the brass backplate.

Note the backplate is only held on with 3 screws, the other two are sheared off in their holes.

The case is in good condition, I ordered it from the mothership after I bought the bass.

You can remove the FretFX pack and LED strip without damage to the bass if you desire. I installed Straplocks on the bass as well.

I have audio samples of the bass being used in recordings and live shows, if desired.

Even with the issues, that is such a lovely bass. I've never tried a Distillate and was wondering how it balances and what the weight is?

The Distillate weighs 10 lbs. It used to neck dive, but I bought a wide Alembic strap and that fixed the issue for me. She now hangs at 3 and pretty much stays there.
