I am the current high bidder for this bass and I would like to warn all other potential bidders that I am prepared to pay almost anything to walk away with this bass. It will compliment my quilted maple Essence 5 very nicely. Good luck to all especially els.

Then maybe you two guys should agree on a fair price? Are you inviting someone to bid $1300 to see how serious you are, or asking all to leave it alone so you can buy it for $750? Both are possible, and neither is particularly fair. This bass was offerred here almost two months ago with an asking price of $1K. Chances are good that it will make at least that on eBay, but not guaranteed.

Seriously, why don't you two get a fair deal together?

I believe on e-bay when an item is up for auction the seller can't just make an offer to someone ... the auction has to run it's course unless there's a BUY IT NOW price. I'm kind of new to e-bay but recently was looking for a Chapman Stick and asked someone if i could make an offer and that's what they said. I'd have to bid because that's the rules. And BTW i LOST the auction on the particular stick. I did eventually get one though! :-) Hey essencetimestwo ... if you loose the auction maybe I'll offer you MY 1988 Persuader? Maybe. :-)

Good luck!

If you learn about an item through the auction, then eBay "prohibits" you from making a deal outside of eBay. In this case, the item has been posted for sale here for two months, so it would be hard to argue that case.

Also, the seller can choose to sell to the high bidder at any time. eBay is happy with that as long as they get their fee. People still let auctions play out when confronted with a reasonable offer. For some, it is a lack of understanding of the rules, some a feeling that they are honor bound to let it run out, and some just are greedy and want that max bid.
