Just a heads up. Not the easiest of decisions but I'll likely be putting my 96 Baby S2 Coco Bolo Alembic bass up for sale. It has brand new pickups. It's been sitting mainly in it's case since I bought it. One of the original pickups had a short, a rarity.

if the bass is from 1996, why you needed to change pickups ?

I took it to mean Short-circuit. can't see how anything else would apply to a pickup ;-)

Brief history:
I have wanted an Alembic for a long, long time.
The bass was originally fretless when I bought it, the previous owner dropped it off at Alembic so I could have the following work done:
I had the fret board replaced and now it’s fretted
I had side LEDs added with a dimmer.

When I got the bass and played it did not sound right.
For years I had been trying to figure out was wrong with the help of Mica, that’s why the bass is virtually untouched/played since I bought it. Shipping it down to Alembic was not a cheap option plus getting it back up here could be another issue. Countless emails back and forth between Mica and myself and we could not figure out what the problem was, we thought it was a faulty pre amp.
Last year I was communicating with another bass player and he told me to try checking the Ohms on the pickups. I emailed that info to Mica and her dad determined that it was a faulty pickup. Mica sent me 2 new pickups last year. I do not know how the circuitry operates but a faulty pickup does affect the sound immensely.

The reason for thinking of selling my basses: 6 and 5 string Ken Smiths, a 5 string Squire Jazz plus the Alembic is my second finger of my (picking) right hand is functioning as it used to, could be issues in my forearm and culprit could be too many years typing on the computer. I am trying to find a therapist who knows about and have dealt with muscians especially bass players or classical guitar players.

eos35 If you are looking for a therapist might I direct you to the group of therapists I belong to. KMI therapists are the very best. Our training is quite extensive and we are world wide. I don't know where you live but here is a link to our practitioner list. Good luck and I hope your arm/hand improves. Also, If there is not a manual therapist in your area look for an advanced rolfer to check you out.

Thanks. That is the bass but the photo becasue of the bass is highly reflective the photo does not come close to the actually depth of grain, colour. I just took it out of the case to start taking some photos. I think the last time I picked it up was last September or October. It always shocks me the way it looks. I am trying to upload some photos but it looks like thay are too large. Once I figure out a way to make them smaller I will post them. I used part of my savings to get this beauty. I have not figured on a price as yet.

Hey Pierre-Yves, Hmmm weren't those photos taken from I believe "Bass magazine" or some other article", so it's like a copy of a copy. The back plates do not look like that. Even the colour of the bass is off in the link you attached. Look at the photo above posted by "charles holmes".
