Hey everyone,
I stumbled across this @ instrument exchange, it is supposed to have interchangable fretboards, sound rediculous to me. Butu I guess anything is possible.

Some company offered that (aftermarket mod?) in the '80s...Darryl Jones used to play a Guild Pilot with interchangable fingerboards. They're held on magnetically.
When I remember the name of the company (might have been NovaTone), I'll add it to this post.

I think you would have to do some side by side comparisons with 'set' fretboards as opposed to the 'attached' fretboard, but my prejuduce would be that the tonal qualities would be somewhat lacking.
I'd never seen that before, thanks for posting it!

I think Alembic experimented with those for John McVie, if I'm not mistaken, in the late '70s but dropped the idea. I think they were using stainless steel or something.

There is as Spoiler 4 string at the Manhattan Guitar Center with interchangeable fretboards. fretless board looks like a sheet of stainless steel. They want a lot for it. I haven't played it, and it has been there a while. Interesting.

The GC one has been around the block over and over on their auction site for months with no apparent interest. Maybe it's an oddity that needs to be played before one turns up the nose at it, but I can't get interested, myself.
