greetings,

i'm in the market for an essence 4 string. i've got an an american fender pj and am looking for a different sound. i tried an essence 4 string and liked the sound and playability. i've seen the ones at bassnw (like it) and basspalace (don't like the red neck) and both seem priced a little high. anyone got one for sale or a similarily priced set neck alembic?

regards,

dave

Dave-

They aren't really priced high as much as they are dealer-priced. It's almost guaranteed that a dealer-sold instrument will be priced at the high end of the range for that type of instrument, but there are benefits to buying from a dealer. For example, these guys aren't going to take your money and run, a risk you face in a private or eBay deal. Epic basses can regularly be acquired at or below $1000 on eBay (there's a nice one there right now), but a typical Essence will be a couple hundred higher. Spoiler and Persuader basses are very similar in value to the Essence and are also readily available. These instruments are typically greater than 10 years old where most Essence basses are 10 or younger.

Now's the time to buy, so keep your eyes open.

There's an Essence for sale on Instrument Exchange, but it sounds like you don't like red. It's ALL red. It's been re-listed several times, and the starting bid is $1210 or so. Supposed to be in great shape.
