I just got a 1978 series 1 back from alembic. They refinished it, new fret board, frets, inlay, led's, new electronics, hardshell case, power supply, chord etc.... I would need at least $6500. Awesome guitar for the money....I wanted to post here first so if anyone was interested.

So the cavity covers & strap buttons are from '78? :-)
Looking good!

i know the covers are from 78 as alembic just polished them up. and unless alembic just replaced the strap buttons they are original. no reason for them to do so though.

That was a joke, Austin - implying that, given everything that was new, the items I named must be all that was left from the original. Thus the smiley face. As an inveterate wise-ass, I hate not being able to put vocal inflection & facial expression into an e-mail!

That looks very similar to '78 1180 that I used to own. Schedua? I love that vintage. I also got that one refurbished and added an omega cut at the time. It looks like this refinish, etc., came out really nicely. It's beautiful and will make anyone a fine instrument for a long time. Good luck with the sale, unless you decide to keep it!

This one is 1151....According to Susan it used to have a silver "Jesus" logo where the Alembic logo now is. When I bought it the Jesus logo was gone.
I know for a 78 the price is a little above the going rate but but well worth the extra couple grand.
I am just selling for what exactly I have in it. I paid $2,000 for the original bass and paid Alembic $4500 for all the work.
I am not sure on the wood but I will check into it.

I agree, it is well worth it considering what a new one would go for. You almost have a new bass. Did they do a refinish as well? If not, it has been kept in great shape. I had a similar job done to my series 1 a few years ago. They turned it into a series 2 (master volume, and variable eq pots), the electronics upgrade, new pick ups and a refinish of the body. I think it cost me $4k total. Well worth it. I wish you luck in selling it and I hope you have no problem getting your price.

Yes they did a refinish. The original finish was cracking like a lot of the others from that time.
The reason mine was a little higher price was probably due to adding the led's.
