Hmmm. I've been thinking of doing this to one of my own Essences. I've got these nice green abalone dots sitting here… Any comments, anyone? Or is just suggesting this taboo? |

No taboo at all, we retrofitted dots in a six string essence not long ago. That bass is too old for anyone to remember working on it. Unless they are REALLY unusual, our guys don't generally remember specific instruments for very long after they have worked on them. Valentino

Can anyone tell me why this bass sold for so much? Granted it has the dots but other than that it is pretty much stock. I have a 98 Essence 5 and as I understand it 2500.00 is about 1000.00 over the market value of this bass. Is there something I am not getting here or did someone get into a little out of control bidding war? Anyone want to Buy my Essence 5. A steal today only for 2250.00. This is a private auction so there might be something fishy going on. Check out this thread. http://alembic.com/cgi-bin/alembic-club/show.cgi?393/17301 |

I agree on both counts. Past trades suggest $1,500 to be a more likely selling price. And private auctions do tend to smell a little like fish. The seller does have good feedback. And the bass did have a pretty Maple top. Maybe the market in used Alembics is heating up. The selling price is still significantly less than the cost of a similar bass new; so the price is reasonable when compared to ordering the same bass new. |
