Hi Gang, is it just me or do you find it aggravating that half the items that show up on an Alembic ebay search are things like a recently listed Schack bass? It is listed as like an Alembic and appears to be a clear copy,#7332644433. I think I know why they do this but honestly, do they think someone shopping for an Alembic would see this and go, "Hey,close enough, I'll take it." Especially at their asking price of $2,290. If this is the case I'd like all the gal's to know that I'm made up of the same chemical compounds as Brad Pitt and I was even in a movie!(Death Wish II, on the bus in the park scene, made $5).
The Schack may be a good bass but when I see it sold off the coattails of Alembic it makes me think shady operation. BTW, Brad and I are both from Michigan, I'm waiting ladies. Stay Low, Gary

Cool down, Gary.
"that half the items that show up on an Alembic ebay search are things like a recently listed Schack bass"
That's simply not true!
BTW: Schack basses are great basses and this one is probably really a collectors item because it's # 003 - one of the early Schacks when he tried to copy the Series basses.
But I hope the ladies don't see the differences between you and Brad.
;-))

This same bass was listed on the German e-bay awhile back. My guess is since it didn't sell they relisted to a wider audience. I've never heard the bass but it doesn't look half bad to me.

Hi Harald, I wish I could cool down, it's 96 outside right now. OK, you busted me on my math but it seems like I have to sift through a lot of similar to, or like an Alembic hyperbole to get to the meat so to speak. When I see 13 items listed on a search my reaction is, cool some neat stuff to see. Then I've got to slog through glow lights, home made and half made debacles and now this copy cat Schack. I say NO MORE!!! I'm mad as heck and I won't take it anymore! Protests, civil disobedience, and severe lashings are in order! OK,OK, I'm alright, your right Harald, I'm going to go play my SC. All better, Gary.

You're right Keith. The bass was listed regular on German Ebay the past years and is also listed at their shop (http://www.music-shop-kassel.de/) since years. A friend of mine has an early Schack headless with a carbon neck and it's a great sounding bass. Schack was one of the first Luthier here in Germany starting to build high end basses. I'm really wondering that nobody took this copy in the past. may be the price is a bit too high.
BTW: Gary, it's hot here in Germany too ;-))

Hey Gary,
Congrats on being in the best Deathwish! That is, as far as soundtracks are concerned. Thank you Jimmy Page!

Thanks Harald, now I feel like an idiot.(I'm used to it)First I display my lousy math skills and then I darn near create an international incident via my ignorance of bass 101. My sincere appologies to my Deutschland bass brothers for any implication of disrespect toward Mr. Schack. Sounds like he may be a legitimate player and therefore I digress.
I think some of us on this side of the pond think the rest of the world believes we are insane, are held in contempt, and ignored. As a result I tend to stay inside our shores.I've grown weary of trying to define, explain and defend what is going on here, as the grand social experiment is still evolving. It's a relatively new process and no one left directions.
When I have a connection to another part of the globe such as we have had, it can be uplifting and encouraging that the human species can survive our many differences. I think you handled my little "ugly American" display with class. I appreciate the gentle "slapdown".

Now, could we have Chrysler back????

Stay Low,Gary.

You should report keyword spam in any catagory when you find it on ebay. I have reported at least 50 keyword spamming auctions for the name Alembic over the last year or so and they usually get cancelled by ebay. It's particularly gratifying when there are bids on the item.

"like alembic"
"alembic style"
"not alembic"

Any of these are considered keyword spamming and will be cancelled if you report it at least two days before the end of the auction (there is a backlog, but I think they are doing their best).

I really don't care if it's a nice bass or not. If it's not an Alembic the Alembic name shouldn't be used.

Hi Karl, didn't know you could report this activity. As I mentioned, I find the practice at the least distracting if not disturbing. Thanks for the heads up on keyword spamming as this devious behavior occurs throughout Ebay.

I still maintain Brad and Gary are alike as they both have four letters.

Stay Low, Gary.
