It is time to sell off a bunch of stuff again. Last yard sale I did I sold $22,890 through the club, eBay, and a few local pick-ups from local bands, if you consider driving from Caribou, Main to Boston, local. I really miss the stuff I sold, and I will miss the items that go this time, too. This will be a slow, on-going endeavor as I am such a wimp these daze. I am in no real rush to sell anything, and things will pop up as I dig them out of my closets and garage, and probably some stuff I have stationed around at friends houses so when I would go there to mess around, I would not have to truck stuff with me. So I will start out with a couple of things I took a few pictures of, and just add stuff over the next few months, or years, as I run across them. I will post unimpressive pix, and better ones can be gotten by asking for the originals, or even telling me what kind of shots you want, and size limitations of your e-mail account. Remember, I am sick (Always these daze), so please cut slack on getting things asked for. If I were not sick, I would not dream of parting with hardly any of this stuff. So . . . .

Since I like selling to Alembic Club members and hate e-Bay, the black market of the world these days, I will check out e-Bay prices and give a healthy discount from what those jerks are offering stuff for on there. My word is better than any policies ever offered on e-Bay, so fairness is number one with me, and shipping will always be for exact amounts, and I will eat the packing materials, which will be 1" foam (Unless better is needed) with a new cardboard outer-skin, duct-taped over it, all cut on my table saw.

I'll start with a great five-string bass, a Black Beauty, and a neat-o Twin and extension cab with 12" Gauss speakers in all. Things will run from vintage Yamaha and BGW work-horse amps, to Altec big throat horns and drivers, crossovers, a mixboard no doubt, and all kinds of various amp, preamps, processors, whatever . . . Please have patience on me getting all pieces of the item posted.

2008 Gibson Custom Shop Ebony Black Beauty. I bought this guitar from a guy that used to lease instruments to recording studios. It never left his warehouse and was sold on e-Bay along with about 15 other various other LP's and SG's at the time. This guitar is virtually unplayed (I never use a pick). It may have a total playing time of maybe 20 to 30 minutes on it, and not a scratch on it from that, of course. I bought it to learn to play guitar, but my fat fingers are a joke on it. I got it about four or five years ago, before I moved back to California in October of 2010. I got too sick after moving back, so never played it at all. I think there is one like it on e-Bay right now for $3,299.xx, but it is not in prime shape and someone sweated all over the gold BADLY, so it is all pocked marked up. Bummer! This guitar is as if it just came out of the box from Gibson, but it has yellowed some from age on the binding, of course. Makes it look much cooler! So consider it NOS. I think I have the box it came in in the attic of my garage, but I will make no promises on that. All case candy is included, with original tag on the handle in a mint case. It is the real deal, and no, it does not have the fake ebony fretboard or the likes of the new ones Gibson is now selling these days.

Note that any marks on the guitar are from dust or the flash. As I stated, just as if it just came out of the box from the factory.

The black cloth under the headstock in the case is a Gibson Black Beauty T-Shirt in size large to XXXL - I should have polished the guitar, but I did polish it with car wax last year and lemon-oiled the fretboard.

Fender Twin Reverb amp loaded with orange basket 'Fender' Gauss 12's (Very rare and collectable - I'm a vintage speaker freak). I bought this from a shop new on-line about two years ago. Original speakers and wiring will be included. Also a close matching extension speaker cab with white basket Gauss 12's and oxygen free cable. Has a combined load of 3 ohms, but kicks major ass, even in 1/4th power mode, which the amp has a switch for. It is a cool head on this, as it has sends and line-out, if I remember right. Buyer should know what he/she is buying, so should know more about the amp than I do. Bass players . . . You can get a manual on-line and it is the current model Fender is selling for Twins. Since Gauss speakers have 4.25 inch voice coils and are highly efficient, they should never come close to blowing using two or four of them, amp on 10, but should really make one's ears bleed. No thanks.

So many angles of this, to show it is nice all over. Never taken to a gig, just sat in my friend Eddie's music room since I got it. Eddie mainly uses a old 60's Twin I made solid oak cabinets for back in 1980 with original JBLs in it - Really a sight to be seen (Someone dropped it off a truck, so I got it cheap and wood was affordable back then). It has realistically, maybe 15 hours of play\test time on it. It also has a nice cover with embroidered logo from Fender, and plug-in casters for rolling around.

Very rare speakers, 200 watts RMS each, built like a tank, literally. Extension jack looks cramped, but fits in nicely.

Wow I have a Fender Twin amp too, Had it since about 1998. I'm almost certain I don't have those speakers in mine though. It was my main gigging amp for the best part of a decade but hasn't seen any live action for a few years now that my gigs are on bass these days.
When I was in mainland europe touring I usually got one with Jensen speakers.

All the best with the sales.

Actually, with slight mods to the cabs, these could be used as either small combo amps, or the high end in a bi-amped system, since the 12's will do 6K and are unblowable. But why bother, when others are probably better suited for that. This would also be a great keyboard or steel guitar amp.

It is worth mentioning the gutz of a Twin = a Dual Showman, and therefore an Alembic pre-amp section.

Original speakers, wiring harness, and oxygen-free copper extension speaker cable. Interesting note on white Gauss 12's - They are consecutive serial numbers, so obviously bought straight from the factory and used in the same application. Cool!

Not only does the maple change drastically when turned in the light, but so does the African Zebra Wood. It is by far the best planks of Zebra Wood I have ever seen. They have the quality of tiger eye gem stone when turn/rolling it in the light. Light to dark streaks throughout. There is as much purpleheart as in an Alembic five-string bass in the neck. Pin-striped ebony between the body wings and the neck for extra definition. Wenge between the body wing laminates. Padouk (Spelling?) in the middle lam of the seven lam neck. The maple is the neck is truly amazing in its flames/quilts, bird's eye effects. Very solid fundamentals and brilliant highs. It is SN 634 or 639, I forget. I'
ll look atg the back of the headstock later for which. Since Michael started numbering at I believe 182 for bass number and year of build and then just went consecutively after that, this is less than the 500th bass made, and one of the rarest made, and omega cut Signature, top-of-the-line model. Definitely an early pre-Gibson made in his first shop by him and his original staff. I have only seen two basses like this one he made. I did see one with an Explorer body, lesser model, but possibly more rare than this bass. I did not buy it, as this bass was kept by me for over a decade because it is simply the best playing five-string bass I have ever played, and probably the equal of the best playing four string, Alembic 20th Anniversary I sold to a club member a LONG time ago. I have read posts that others agree it is such a great bass to play on posts of club gatherings the new owner took it to. This bass does have the highly sought after 9 volt pre-amp in it.

Break time. I was once made fun of by an evil lawyer working for Italia Straps during the Moody breakup and 'Strap-Wars!' Who could make fun of cuties with a 62 Jazz Bass and a 57 LP Standard??? Note that the instruments have actual strings on them, and the clothes are down to the most minute detail, and cost about the same price as adult clothing of the same things. Anime obsession is not for the poor folk out there . . . Bass players glasses are crooked because they are actual frames with glass lenses and I slipped when moving them to take the picture. Clumsy me - Good drugs, though . . .

Back to more pictures and history of the bass later today, most likely.

People keep asking for price, so here is a quick decision for the three items above. 2008 NOS LP $3,000. 1984 (I think) Tobias Signature in Calzone 1/2" flight case $3,500. Twin and extension cab $1,500. I was wanting $3,500 for the LP and would have combined it with the amps for $4,500,. so I will just break up at that price. All very fair prices in my book, especially since some dinks are trying to get $5K for their pre-Gibson fivers in not so nice shape.

The Tobias has a history on this site. I bought it off eBay a long time ago by a guy I later found out was a fellow Alembic Club member - Small world, truly. He loved the way the bass played so much, he sent it to Alembic and had them model the neck for his custom five strings. Should you want this neck on a custom bass made here, simply ask for a Steve Wood neck and Mica will know exactly what you want, as the dimensions are on file. Indeed, the reason I am finally willing to part with this bass, is that I am having a Steve Wood neck put on this bass, as well as several other goodies to finish off my old ebony bass:

http://alembic.com/club/messages/411/99963.html?1342773616

Just found the original auction listing info - I believe the seller (Steve) is probably right about it being an '87, not an '84. My memory these days is not good at all, so here is the posting:

"This is a one-of-a-kind 1987(pre-Gibson)Tobias Signature 5 string, hand-built by Mike Tobias himself. The bass features a beautiful zebrawood top and back, with a wenge tone plate. The neck is made of highly figured maple, with purpleheart and padouk stringers. What makes this bass truly unique is the omega cutout on the body. A handful of the first few Tobias basses were built this way, but Mike Tobias had long since abandoned the omega cut design when this bass was built as a special one-of-a-kind custom project. As far as I know, this is the only Tobias Signature bass ever built with the omega cutout. The bass is in excellent condition. The only imperfection of any consequence is a small scratch on the wooden truss rod cover (see picture). I will accept PayPal or certified checks as payment. Buyer to pay shipping. E-Mail me with your questions, and good luck!"

Pix of the damaged truss rod cover.

Why so many shots that kind of look the same? Drugs? Note chalky looking stuff on case aluminum wipes off. Storage dust, I suppose. It still has its original tag on the handle from Calzone. It has flown no where or been shipped either, except its shipment to me from Anvil/Calzone.

Hey David. I have about 550 to 600 feet (Who knows?) of LGB G-Scale (Garden scale) track running around my back yard. I thought they would be very good exercise for my spine, but actually I got too sick, so it is all looking like a real-life RR in lack of maintenance. It is all water-proof and UV resistance, so no big deal. I spent months and months making the houses and building in my two towns out of Piko kits, and have a bunch of engines and around 30 cars to be pulled around, a dozen or so lighted old-time passenger cars, which are mainly for steam engines. It can be very involved, and my living room is filled with train stuff, as can be seen in the pix above, behind, to the side, and on the floor of a couple of shots. The cars and pick-up trucks on the shelves are actually for my train set out there. Anything 1/24th scale works. Choo choo! All aboard. Engineer Tom out . . .

I took five pix of my main rack and only the fifth one came out. I am sure it is operator head-spacing. I will no doubt keep the tuner in the first slot and the DS-5R in the seventh slot. Until I get my camera battery charged up fully tomorrow, have fun guessing what these items are. I have other rack components I will sell, too. Most will probably just get put on eBay. If I put one item there, I might as well stick dozens . . . The rack itself and some of the heavier amps may go on Craig's List for this area and Sacramento, maybe.

Well Boyz and Goilz, it is kind of fun to get old and senile. I can do nutz things like have contests. I have already listed all these at my Alembic friends' discounted prices. However, any one guessing all the components I have in the rack can have a 15% discount on any item sold. Hmmm, that could be up to an extra $525 off on like the bass or $450 off the guitar. Exciting! That would really add to their investment value by making them, cheaper to acquire, so increase their profit margin when time for resale comes (If kept in the condition they are currently in). One of them is a trick question, so what the hey, I'd kick in another 5% for all answered correctly. Otherwise the trick question one can be omitted. Are we having fun yet? Those of us without a life sure are!!!

Sonicus - I know your taste in amps, and for you I will toss in a bonus. One vintage amp I know you will love, but you'll have to pay shipping on it, and maybe a $15 donation for packing materials.

If it is time to go, might as well have lots of fun on the road out. Life without some fun is just existence when ya never had kids, so . . .

Quiz time is over. This is actually a very simple rack. Bi-amped configuration where I can play both stereo Alembics and other instruments through it, simultaneously. No patching on the fly in a gig situation. The Stewart Pro Reference 1000 is actually a chrome faced audiophile version of their World 1.2 amp, perfect for mid-range applications. Like a quilted-top bass, and just about all shiny faced rack stuff, it photographs terribly. When I strip this down to sell it, I will take each piece outside to photograph it. It is all too heavy for me to lug outside or lay down on its back to remove components, so maybe next month. Thje real secret to keeping components looking very nice over time is to lay the rack on its back, so you can slip in or remove the components without gravity pressing them against the others, causing rack rash. Also, using washers on the screws. Looks a little dorky, but it keeps the pieces looking new. I used black plastic washers on the above, so dorkiness removed. My three-space rack drawer for this unit is sitting out in my garage somewhere, and will be sold along with this stuff.

Thomas ____ Nice rack ! That Stewart looks interesting ! Thanks for the view of the goodies ______.

I have loaded lots of 19" racks as well . I also like to use synthetic non metallic washers with the rack screws to protect the gear. I find it also to be a good practice to support the heavy pieces of gear on the bottom with support underneath and /or support straps on the back rails if you have them on back.

Hey Wolf - If memory serves me correctly, and who knows about that, you once said you really like old Yamaha amps a lot. I have a couple 2002A's like the one pictured, and you can have one, if ya want to pay shipping on it. I am not into hassling selling them, as shipping will be a bit on em, so giving one to someone who would really appreciate it would be more satisfying to me than selling it for a few bucks, just to make eBay and PayPal some money. Let me know if you want it. I use the other one to power the VOTs I keep on my back patio.

Hey Keith, I missed it so much I bought another one? I've owned several over the last decade or two. I think they are great.

Anyone interested in a 'cheap' PA for local pick-up in Chico, California?

24/48 Channel Behringer MX-8900 MixBoard With Meter Bridge & Power Supply + 2 Goose-Neck Lights + Hard Case
Same as: http://www.amazon.com/Behringer-SX4882-Preamplifiers-Integrated-Meterbridge/dp/B002C4SP3G
Matched Set of BGW Amps & Rack, Plus Spare 750 Amp
Three-way Rane Stereo Cross-Over
Behringer Pro-Whatever Graphic EQ
JBL Bottoms (D-130 or D-140 Speakers) 15" Flared VOT Cabs
JBL 1" Butt Horns
JBL Bullet Tweeters
Mics (At least three Senheisers and maybe up to three others, all in new condition and cases)
Mic Bag & Stands (Six stands in their own bag)
Cables For All

The BGW Rack can be seen here, and a VOT bottom in the corner with an Altec 5000B on it:
http://alembic.com/club/messages/411/13368.html?1165501171

I seriously do not understand how the mixer can still be produced and sold for a grand?! It is actually a great live board for a small band, and the eight stereo sends make it to where you can group and send the channels anywhere you want to, and it is very quiet. Maybe the new model does not have the expensive external power supply they put out with the 9000? It takes up 2.5 rack spaces, so three - Half a space for ensured cooling. I used this board once at the company pic-nic. Pix will follow, I am sure. I was running three separate sound systems for fun and coverage of the five acre park we were in.

I'll let this go to an Alembic friend for $2,000. All items are prime and should last for many years. The BGWs are the rare ones with LED meters on them, so collectable. I just cannot handle any of this stuff anymore. Aluminum bullet tweets were added to make it three-way, and only the drummer might appreciate it, as only his highest cymbal sounds would end up going out them at around 12K to 15K, as you set them.

Before tossing a couple of pieces to the wolves on eBay, I'll offer them here for the starting bid I would put them there at. I would rather get less and deal with people I trust.

2008 Gibson Custom Shop Ebony Les Paul - $2,500 - Guaranteed not a scratch, dent, or scuff on it. Perfect for a collector or player.

1987 Tobias Signature Five String Bass With Omega Cut Body - $2,500 - Sold only to a player, as this bass needs to be in the hands of someone that will gig it.

Note that once I put this anything on eBay, I will not stop an auction for a private sale here. Just FYI in case later . . . .

Mix

This is the mix board I listed. The oak table it is on comes with it. Very sturdy, so using it as a portable dance floor, bleacher, or workbench is also encouraged. Legs attach with four very large bolts, each. If you see components of the sound system I listed, I will sell off single ones if wanted. Make an offer. No is the worst thing I would say.

The mixer's power supply is sitting on its shelf, along with a couple of mic cases. The black bag next to the purple flight case is the mic stand bag. All look brand new. The shelf of the mix table is removable by taking out the four bolts on each side. The front 'rail' of the table is flush with the wrist surface of the mix board, so more room to rest your hands on when playing around with it.

VOTs

Picture of the 15" speaker cabs. There is a 1" JBL driver behind the Altecs. Note that the Altecs are very collectable and will be sold later to a collector for big bucks, no doubt. I got them from the City of Oroville 20 years ago, when some guy talked them into downgrading their auditorium system for one that cost four times as much and was not close to half as good. Government waste!

Front

The company pic-nic I provided sound for - The only time I ever used the mixboard. The guy standing next to it is HUGE, about 6'4" or taller.

mix2

Strange angle, as shot looks squished sideways a bit. I do not have a fish-eye lens, so must be a software glitch when shrinking the photo down.

Good old JBL lens horns. Used those with JBL 4560 cabinets for a while back in the day. Sounded great but heavy. Replaced it with a 3-way system using custom cabinets by a local Chicago area builder with JBL drivers and white Heil fiberglass horns.

You provided all this for a company picnic? I hope everyone in your company was the size of the guy two pics up to help you haul and set up this system.

The huge 2395 lens' were in custom cabs built with their own wheels and lids, so they packed up as safe as a flight case, jusat about, and since they had old style 24XX drivers, they weighed a ton. The drivers on top of the two-10'2 cabs newer neodymium models that weighed 25 pounds less, each, but were the same 2" drivers acoustically. There are actually two drivers on top of each dual 10" cab. One with miniature version of a 2395 lens on them and the other with just a round adaptor in case a horn died/fried. I showed up early in the morning to unload this stuff using a U-Haul, and no help in the rain. This is where I learned one of the most important roadie lessons one can ever know - No matter how hot it is - Never unload equipment wearing Birkenstocks - Ever! I tore a legiment in my right calf almost toi trhge bottom of the ramp unloading a heavy dual 15" Gauss bottom and then setup the stuff and hobbled around the rest of the day. Others loaded it for me, so I was very glad for that. And really glad they unloaded it into my garage, where it sat for a month while I missed work rolling around my living room in a wheeled office chair. Ahhh, the good old days. I'm old school and really love the big, old, heavy stuff, as generally, speakers never sounded better than those, and the life of neodymium is much shorter than ferrous is, so oldies do not have to be regaussed as often, which can cost a lot in fees and shipping. Then again, most people just toss out the old and go buy new.

The amount of professional bands in northern Maine can be counted on one hand, and no one stuck around there who did not have to. So I would gladly setup my sound system for events if asked. There were 400 employees at the company and all their families at a five-acre park, so it was a large area to cover. The prior events I was using my old Tangent board, but it burned up at the company block party, thus new board was gotten. It is not a Soundcraft studio mixing consul, but it really did well for live and processed feeds mixing. I was quite surprised. OK, nuff rambling . . .
