Yes Dave . However they didn't fit my 90 Essence. There was a change in the design of the pickup mold by 92. | ||

Oh yes, I remember your post and Mica's response! I have an S1 that has a similar problem. A previous owner had Alembic install new pickups; and because the holes on the new pickups are not in the same position as the originals, the adjusting screws do not line up properly. | ||

Bob, how would it read? I have no idea when the screw hole pattern changed for the different housings; and considering Mica's response, I'm guessing she doesn't know either. There probably isn't a record. I suppose we could just simply say something like "due to a change in the pattern at some unknown point in time, older and newer pickups are not necessarily completely interchangable". What do you think? On mine, it is a bit of a problem. Maybe at some point I'll send it back to Santa Rosa and have them look at it. | ||

I have 2 Epics (MXY pickups) that have different hole spacings. The '95 4 string has holes more toward the edges. The '98 5 string has holes more toward the middle. Rich | ||

I wonder if that narrows down the time frame when the spacings were changed; or whether it indicates that the spacings may be variable over time. | ||

MY Apologies to all.I made an assumption in my listing that Alembic would know the date of the mold change.I Assumed Alembic keeped track of these things, Even though Mica may not have had the information at her fingertips. We should try to figure this out. Rich and Roy both seem to have some useful numbers. Let's assume that the width of the MXY (along the length of the strings) has not changed, and that only the hole spacing has changed, but has always been centered. So we list the latest instrument serial number and date of birth, that has the wide spacing, as well as the earliest with the narrow spacing, and of course say what the wide and narrow spacing is (center-to-center hole spacing, inches or mm, your choice). Anyone who has conflicting evidence, or can help narrow down the time range, posts that information (maybe we should continue here, since people can't respond to the FAQ section). It seems like a pretty safe bet that the mold didn't change very often, so maybe we can pin it down pretty closely, and at least let people know what the measurements are. The Series pickups have been around a lot longer, and perhaps there are more variations, but maybe we could start with Dave's and work backward or something. And perhaps along the way, we can turn up a set of pickups for Roy. | ||
