A buddy passed and he had this guitar since new. The case needs to be cleaned as does the electronics, but it is solid and unique. Can anyone please help ID and come up with an asking price? Hi, Dan. Sorry about your friend. What you have there appears to be an early Series I. The lack of a truss rod cover (assuming it hasn't just been removed) suggests 1976 or earlier. The in-line, Fender-type headstock is rather rare. Assuming the electronics and the blue box all work correctly, it would likely sell on eBay in the $2750-3750 range, perhaps even a little more due to the rare headstock shape. You might want to bring it to a luthier to check it out. Make sure you find someone who is familiar with Alembics. They are a completely different animal from all other electric guitars. Many a well-meaning competent luthier has butchered these guitars through inexperience with them. Also, you might want to post the serial number for us. You should find it impressed in the wood at the top end of the headstock. My guess is it will be either 74, 75, or 76, followed by three numbers. Bill, the guitar one |

Bill knows a thing or two, he is wise to the way of early Alembic's. My 2 cents; honor your buddy, don't sell it instead learn how to play it, you will be rewarded and his passionate friend will continue to sing in trusted hands. . . . |

"The case needs to be cleaned as does the electronics" Is it noisy when you turn a knob or two? If so, I believe it has sealed potentiometers and if you turn them back and forth enough, it should clean them up and stop making the scratching noises. Just a thought. |

what is the serial number? It will be stamped on the end of the headstock. possibly also in the inside of square battery cover plate. Will likely say 74-XX or 75-XX. Any condition issues with the finish, frets, etc? Condition plays a big part. Be aware that this is a stereo guitar, so if you plug in with a standard 1/4 jack, only one pickup will work. The box will allow for testing in stereo. I had a very similar one from 1974. Cool guitar. Very thin neck which isn't for everyone, but still a great guitar. I'd think the right buyer would pay $3000-$3500 |
