Just curious, did anyone here get that cocobolo Mark King advertised on ebay? It sold for $3,300 plus some change.

well, i haven't bought 3 alembics in 3 months, exactly. i have bought 3 in the last year. i've bid on a ton of them, and lost everytime (what is my luck in bidding on exploiters? i can't win one). winning the Mark King, though, was sweet. my wife isn't as bad as it might sound. she just thinks i'm an idiot for having 10 basses, including 3 alembics. i sold my epic a few months ago because i just didn't like the sound. it was beautiful and fun to play, but i just didn't like the sound. the spoiler i'm selling is a blast to play and sounds great and i intended to keep it for the rest of my life until........drumroll, please...........i saw the MK. jeez! that coco bolo top killed me dead in my tracks. so, to prove to my wife that i'm not hopelessly addicted, as she has claimed the last 2 days, i'm giving it up along with my beloved persuader vector, which i truly love. i absolutely, undeniably, unequivocally love my persuader vector. it just has a sound that is so full and it's so easy to get so many sounds w/only those 2 little knobs. that's what amazes me. 2 controls and i have yet to exhaust the range of sounds and tone that i think are lurking in that thing. 2 controls. that's all! amazing. dave has tried to explain it to me, but i don't get it. it's simple and yet it sounds so complex. i swear you could take the electronics from my old epic 5 and combine them w/the electronics from my spoiler and have ten controls and 15 switches and still not keep up w/the combinations i've found on that persuader vector. the MK, though, will be what i use until the day i can afford a series II. i just hope God grants me the number of days it takes to see that dream come true. thank you all for your kind words on my purchase. i feel very lucky and blessed. you know, to own just one alembic in your life is truly a blessing. to have owned 4 almost approaches "obscene." i think i need to re-balance the karma by sending my other 2 out into the world. i don't want to be an alembic pig. 1 MK is more than i ever realistically expected. i'm real happy right now.

Enjoy that MK. I had watched that through its whole bidding process and resisted. Then I saw your spoiler, and the price was right for me. Good times.

thanks 57basstra! until i get my daughter out of the University of Texas Austin, the MK will probably be my last bass purchase. then, w/o that financial drain, i may be able to crank up again and get a series like dave's. i went to his band website and he's got a beauty! everyone should check out his music downloads too. dave can play that thing! very tasty. natrab bought my spoiler yesterday and i'm on the way to ship it to him right now. enjoy the spoiler nate!

no sooner did i post my message above to natrab and 57basstra (sorry, hasadari, didn't see your post----thanks!) than i got an email notification. my persuader just sold on "buyitnow." darn! honestly, i was praying it wouldn't sell so i could keep it. my wife promised to get off my --- if i tried and said if it didn't sell, i wouldn't have to post it again and could keep it. to quote slim pickens in "blazing saddles": "i am sorely disappointed." this really does hurt. you all have no idea how pretty the wood is on the persuader! not coco bolo, but beautiful in its own right! rats!
