i don't think it's as pretty as my mark king coco bolo w/the omega tail, but it's pretty. i'm just a little concerned for the buyer in that seller is a ZERO seller, in canada, and will only accept bank transfer and not paypal. to me, this seems risky. the walnut is really pretty in that closeup! |

Agreed - it sounds risky. I am looking for a Balance K or Series 1 with an omega tail or similar tail. |

This seller tried to sell this bass back in April, with a atsrting bid of $3500. No takers on three attempts, then he dropped the listing. The zero feedback is a flag, of course, but the seller has done their homework. The "no paypal" doesn't bother me that much; many people hate paypal for a variety of reasons (virtually all of which I think are silly). (The usual bitch is that paypal has the gall to _charge money_ for their service. The other biggie is that disputes sometimes take forever to resolve; especially when the dispute is based on somebody not reading the auction payment instructions.) From his earlier auction attempt, the bass has the serial number 99MJ12045, btw. nic |

as you all probably already know, seller has relisted this bass at $2800, which is $300 above his last starting bid when he received no bids and it didn't sell. i asked him about this and if he had made a mistake, and he replied the bass is worth it. ok. anyway, now he accepts paypal. maybe he reads the posts here. anyway, he's tried to sell it at $3500, according to SFNIC above; he's tried to sell it at $2500 and received no bids; now it's back up to $2800 w/4 hours left in the auction and still no bids. |

some people I think just have no clue, I guess its one thing to really need the $$$$ or not want to lose money on an instrument. I look at quite a few Ebay auctions, for instance a Pedulla 6 string thunder bass, its no Alembic but it looks like a nice bass, GC rep has had it up there atleast 5 or more times and with no bids on it and still hasn't dropped the price..........go figure ???? |

i've sold 5 of my basses on ebay w/in the last month or so. 3 sold quickly w/BIN. i had to relist 2. dropped the prices. the warwick infinity sold BIN w/in a couple hours of relisting. the other, a cheap washburn, sold at end of auction. dropping the price did the trick. in fact, the warwick should have sold the first time. however, like you BEELEE, i don't understand it because ebay is quite clear that the listing fee is waived only w/the first relisting. when i messaged the seller of this bass about the price INCREASE in the relist, he was pretty blunt and unapologetic. he just flat out said, essentially, "it's worth it." so, it will be interesting to see if it sells for more the second time than anyone would bid the first time. i guess it's the same thing w/the guy who keeps relisting the damaged spoiler w/the 3 fretboards for the same price over and over and over. i swear that thing has been listed ten times for the same price and he never even gets a bid. this is a really pretty mark king. i love the walnut, but it's just not as pretty IMHO as my mark king coco bolo or the persuader i just bought yesterday on ebay. i'll have to get val to tell me the build info on my new persuader. the ebay ad said it's vermillion but i'm not sure it's not also coco bolo. anyone know? until i get the full serial number i can't ask val. |

I don't know anything about this particular bass but I can offer a general observation. I can understand an individual or a retailer saying "I think it is worth $XXXX (whether or not it is a reasonable estimate), I'm not going to take a bath on it, if I can't sell it for $XXXX then I'll just hang onto it for a while, maybe list it again later, and see what happens". When I bought an Epic 5 and put my Epic 4 up for sale, I knew that other Epics for sale were a better deal for the buyer. I was happy to just keep it. If the seller of the MK is an individual, maybe (s)he doesn't care if it sells or not. If it is part of GC or another company, maybe they have a policy about not selling under a given profit margin until it has been listed a certain number of times. Who knows? I certainly don't. As I said earlier, I don't know anything about this bass or seller and I am not defending anyone. However, I can understand that people or business entities may have reasons for their actions that might not be obvious to me. Rich |

just because i'm a lawyer, i never assume i'm smarter than anyone else. if i was really smart, i would have gone to medical school for one thing. also, when you practice law, all of your common sense drains from your ears at night into your pillow while you sleep, and you find in the morning that you couldn't pour piss out of a boot w/the directions on the heel. not that we piss in our boots in texas-----that would be a capital offense down here, but then again, in texas what isn't a capital offense? anyway, it still didn't sell so if there is a plan here to pricing, it's not working! |

Interesting the reference to the damaged Spoiler with 3 fretboards earlier in this thread- I emailed gcrep about it suggesting that it was, indeed damaged and the price was way too high as it would need to go back to Alembic for repair. His reply to me was "why is it damaged". Wow! Not a clue. I'm sure Joey could enlighten him. Michael (Flame Koa Essence) |

once again, this bass did not sell. why wouldn't you lower the price if you actually wanted to sell it? yesterday, i received a snide message from the seller, responding to a message i sent him/her about 3 weeks ago, in which he mocked my comment that i consider my mark king coco bolo to be prettier and suggesting that since i'm so smart i should be able to sell mine fast. my MK isn't for sale. never will be. i never said it was. i just suggested it's odd to raise the price of a non-sale by $300 the second time around. made no sense to me and still doesn't. and i do prefer the coco bolo to the walnut. it will be interesting to see what happens the fourth time around. |

Hi Patrick, loved the boot bit. I relate to the boot principle so well, I could have defended O.J. I do not think our dear seller could empty his boots before going to bed. |

well, it's back again and now the minimum is $3000. so, first time around it went for $3500. second time it went to $2500. third time it went for $2800. this time it starts at $3K. i was being sarcastic when i wondered about the fourth time. little did i know................... |
