I am giving away sets of bass strings - all you pay is the exact postage.

I purchased a variety of strings to find out what I liked on each of my basses. So now this is a great way for you to try out these same strings without having to pay full price for them.

Some of these are new or like new and others were installed and tried for a few hours at most.

Alembic CX-3 6 string - installed

DR Hi Beam 6 string - only .125 was installed (not trimmed)

Ernie Ball 6 string - installed

GHS Boomers 6 string - new

Hartke HSB550 5 string - new sealed package

Ken Smith Tapercore 6 string - installed

LaBella Supersteps 6 string - one new set, one installed set

Prism PSS60-65L 6 string - installed

Trace Elliot reoundwound 5 string - two light gauge sets, one medium gauge set, all new

For me, there is not one perfect set of strings. Just as I like different basses because they have different sounds, I like specific sets of strings on those basses to match their character. These strings were part of my quest to find THE EXACT set of strings that I wanted on each of my basses.

At one time, I had eight different basses and I had different sets of strings on each of them. Some of these strings were extra sets of the ones that I selected for those basses.

Sometimes the differences were subtle and other times quite dramatic. Some strings would sound great on one bass and terrible on another. Other sets would sound just fine on a bass, but it just wasn't the sound that I wanted from that particular bass.

As I am moving overseas, I have had to reduce my bass collection to just two - my Series II and my '59 Pbass. I am keeping the Fodera Diamond XLs for the Alembic, and the Thomastik-Infeld Jazz Flats and Fender Flatwounds for the Pbass.

A few sets of RotoSound Contact Core RS99 went with a John Gray custom 4-string that I gave to my son.

The Alembics were for a 6-string Alembic Rogue.
The DR Hi Beams were for a Modulus 6-string.
The LaBella Supersteps were for a John Gray custom 5-string.
The Trace Elliots were for a 5-string Alembic Rogue.

I hope everyone else has as much fun as I did trying out all these strings!

When you have very different basses, the choice for each one is really complicated, I'm getting crazy.

It's a small world isn't it? Slawie you bought those strings from Loch. The reason my 5 Essence, that you bought, was available for sale was because I had bought my 6 Rogue from Loch and had't touched the Essence since then.

How are you Derek?
Is that called 6 degrees of separation?
Actually the strings were free I just paid postage.

The Essence is my main playing instrument.
I haven't put it down since I took over custodianship. I have just spent a week in my studio putting down some tracks. Nothing but drums and bass. I would like to try the new strings for a couple of tracks.
BTW I know that I have asked previously but what are the make an gauge of the strings that were on the Essence they are flats but lasted a long time.

The universe owes Loch 2 big pieces of good Karma
He is an allround good bloke

Slawie

Apologies for the highjack

Minus 6 degrees last night!
I saw that the strings were free when Loch put them on.
I am quite wedded to flats and have used Tomastiks but at Mica's suggestion, a few years ago when I visited Santa Rosa, I tried D'Addario chromes and have used them ever since. If the ones I had on it, when you took it, have blue silk binding they are D'Addarios. With the somewhat limited use they get with me they last about 2 years or even more. More use may have an effect but you never know.

Derek

Sort of a highjack but it does have to do with Loch and the type of upstanding guy he is. I'm purchasing his Phil Jones Bass cabs (for a very reasonable price). We have been going back and forth with trying to get the cabs moved from Chicago to Minneapolis but both of our schedules are pretty crazy (I'm in Germany as I write and heading to India tomorrow for 2-weeks of grant related work). Solution...Loch is driving to Mpls. this weekend and dropping off the cabs with my wife at our house (yes, she is going to be surprised at their size).
