Based on what you posted in the other thread about fretboard dimensions, you will never find anything close on the used market. Persuaders were most common in the early days of the five string and usually had narrower-than-four-string neck dimensions. They are also mostly found in medium (32") scale dimension. The fives are very fast for finger or pick style playing, but quite a challenge to slap. Can you talk a little bit about why you want a Persuader and the importance of the pickup configuration? I would expect that your chat with Valentino should have cleared up any questions, but you never know. For example an Essence or Orion are more likely to be found on the used market and have a neck width that you will like. They just won't have a P/J configuration. Good luck in any case! -Bob |

I'd be careful about this one. the seller "Just Peachy Deb" only has 10 feedbacks, the most recent more than a year old. Seller claims the bass has an 18v Bartolini pre-amp that was installed at the Alembic factory! This should raise a red flag. Do you think the Ferrari factory would be willing to install a Chevy engine in a classic Dino? Also, check out the back. It looks like the wood has be routed for a plastic battery compartment. I'd certainly seek confirmation from Alembic about the Bartolini mod before bidding. Bill, tgo |

I agree with Bill; it seems extremely doubtful that Alembic did this work. |

The date stamp in the picture had me going for a bit - thought the picture was reversed, which would have made the bass a lefty - but it was only turned upside-down. Silly me. |

I emailed kata3901 (Tom) about this and he's bailed on the idea of a 5-string Persuader because of the skinny neck. I did think the Bart install story was BS. |

What a shame. I have a vintage BB5000 Yamaha five-string ('87) with a VERY narrow (by modern standards) neck and it's just fine with me for fingerstyle. I'd love to have this bass, but even if I stole it, it would cost mucho dinero to refit with P/J activators and the accompanying circuit. Oh, I'm SURE that Ron stuffed Barts in this orphan ! ! !! Joey; I'm not certain, but the pickups may be the originals. If so, you would only need the circuit. It might be worth an email to the seller to be sure and a call to Val to see what the cost would be. Of course, you would need to get enough controls to fill all the holes! I guess the jack has been side mounted; wonder what that looks like? And than there's that battery cover on the back. I clearer picture of that Maple top could be helpful too. |

Joey, I've got some old Series electronics [sans PUs] I'd let you have for $200. That's what I paid for them when I thought I had a line on some old Series pickups. Alas, I was wrong. |

Yeah Dave, I'm afraid this Christy Brinkley has been turned into Joan Rivers . . . too much surgery! BTW, thank you DrJenney, but I won't need them right now for this orphan. J o e y |

there is definitely something fishy about this bass. from the get-go the 18v thing smelled and i think we all know our Creators would never install Barts in one of their creations at the factory............uhhhhh, point of creation. still, i'll bet it sounds good, but there is definitely something dicey about the seller's background. why are the "Alemhobits" silent about this one? |

I doubt the modification of the electronics was made at Alembic. I can't see Susan or Mica agreeing to something like that It's possible that the seller was lied to when he purchased the bass initially. Wouldn't surprise me. Another (slight) possibility is that this is something that was done by a former employee of ours. A serial number would answer that question. Valentino |

sorry about referring to you as an "alemhobit" val. wasn't trying to lure you or the others out by derision. |
