Love the maple on this one!

Eager to be corrected if wrong, but shouldn't those be CVQ pots instead of switches to qualify as Series II? It does have the triple purpleheart laminates in the neck... but then so does my Persuader.

Looks like the 5-pin has been replaced with a switch too... stereo/mono maybe? There are a couple possibilities here. Maybe this was a Series II when it left home. Interesting.

That maple is just awesome... did I say that already?

It's not a Series II, I already sent him a message but he hasn't corrected yet. It's an Anniversary prepped to host a Series II electronic. I almost bought it 5 years ago but it ended up selling to a collector in Germany.

I called the eBay Auction lister this morning at the phone number listed on the auction page and pointed out to him as what saw as unusual .

1) Where is the 5PIN ? There is a switch on a brass plate there instead.
2) NO CVQ , not really Series II
I explain some things to him in a respectful friendly manner .
Mica , I think the auction lister may try to contact you with questions as well .

Looks like it the advert has been corrected. Very nice bass but that's a steep price to pay for a non-series bass of that age. By the way, I cringed when I saw the photos of the bass balanced on what appears to be a wicker laundry basket and a brick walk with nothing but a very thin piece of plastic under the standard point

I thought the same thing! Isn't that why that bass has a pointed end at the bottom... so musicians don't rest them against walls, etc?

Brian, that's not a series bass? How can you tell?

Me too. I couldn't focus on the instrument; my thought was drawn to the speed at which the camera had to be dropped in order to grab the falling bass... to BRICKS, no less...

Steep price indeed considering IF one were to add Series I or II electronics (and pickups) it would put the (price) range into the realm of a (new) factory instrument.

Matt, this one tripped me up... (and thanks Mods for correcting the thread title) so my bad, but it's a bit of a freak. Without looking at the *inside* of the electronics cavity, it would have been difficult if not impossible to know this bass wasn't currently equipped with Series components, as the rest of the build indicated. Unsurprisingly, another Club Member recognized this one from an earlier encounter. (these guys don't miss much!)

It was apparently built with Anniversary electronics, http://alembic.com/club/messages/16271/27398.html?1145728615 but was built to accept Series upgrades easily in the future. (Anniversary is considered by many here to be "almost Series")

That wicker basket and the balancing act over bricks had me freaked too, but I was blinded by lust over that wood.

I honestly had not seen a switch on a plate where the 5PIN goes. That got me going to the point that I was in dire hope that the instrument had not been " violated" :-) ! I have seen a few Anniversary Electronics preps but not with that switch like that . I think I would go for the 5PIN installed and wired to be able to power the existing Anniversary Electronics . I like that idea .

'Series ready'

I have been itching to get mine upgraded (to Series 1 or 2) but I'd have to sell it to pay for it, ha :-). No violations here Wolf, 100% legit :-).

Oh, yes Wolf right on. I am seeing if I can get the 5pin mod plus; 2 sets of boost/cut/flat switches (B&T) and 3 pos. Q switch upgrades.

Brian,
You know the more I look at the shape of your bass the more I like it. A nice combination of the point and omega and always liked the Distillate / Spoiler shape. Hmmmm?
