After waiting 5mos, I finally got my #2345 of 10,000 completely sold-out numbered box set of the complete Alembic (Ron Wickersham, et al)- recorded source material for the Live Dead LP from their legendary run in '69 at the Filmore West. I think it was around $90 including the Dead's exorbitant S&H charges.

It appears now, as predicted here by others, the EBAY gouging has begun:

BIN for $400!!!

There are others. I don't know why I should be disappointed in human nature when it's "natural" for people to take advantage of others, but I am still disappointed nontheless. Supply and Demand from Economics 101, I suppose.

Supply and demand is basic economics. The thing that gets me are all the true scammers. The new XBox that just released is selling for 2-3 times sticker on eBay, but a significant number of these auctions are scams. One of my friends won three of those auctions and only received one of the deliveries.

I forgot about scammers...it's bad enough people bought copies of this out from under those who really wanted one just so they can turn a profit. I can even understand those that want the music, but don't wanna or can't pay for it, so they record it and then re-sell on ebay. But those who have no interest in the music and just wanna make a buck are scum, nevermind those @#$%^*& who wanna sell thin air to unsuspecting bidders.

Wow! That auction above went no sale, was relisted and sold for $349 BIN!!!! There are at least five other auctions for brand-new unopened sets, none are at less than $189 at the moment, most are over $200 and are still accepting bids.

Did anyone, besides myself, that bought the damn set actually buy it to listen to it?

I've listened to some of it. Sounds great! I can't recall anyone butchering "Hey Jude" as badly as they do on the 3-1 encore, but the rest of that night is scorching. Excellent recording quality, very clean.

I forgot how much I loved that period of the Dead.

Finally, someone who bough the thing for the music, LOL! I love that period of the Dead as well. That set of recordings to me was the closest approximation of a live Dead show than any of the other commercial live releases. Plus...Pig was in the house!

I started hearing of these auctions about a month ago, before they had even started shipping. Apparently one person got $800 for his as yet undelivered copy!

I ordered mine in June and knew from the get go that mine would never hit ebay! 10 discs for $80 seemed like a no brainer to me! It is all that and I love the nail in the drums jam and all the banter as well.

D*mn right! If they'd have let me buy more than one, I'd have bought one as a safety and bought more for gifts. I didn't even try as I thought it'd be nice for everyone who really wanted one to get a set as it was limited to 10,000 issues.

Pig is awesome...any incarnation of the Dead with him in it is great!

Festival express has some of the rare moments of Pig singing ever captured for posterity.
