Here's quite an interesting amp for sale. I'm just not clear from his lengthy description about the exact relationship between the seller (and presumed maker of this amp) with respect to the late Harry Joyce. But it sure is pretty! http://cgi.ebay.com/HARRY-JOYCE-50-WATT-HEAD-BRAND-NEW-HIWATT_W0QQitemZ7406561493QQcategoryZ10171QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem |

Good find Jonathan. Looks like the kind of thing you've been looking for. It's difficult to find any definitive information on who's building these, other than a few Harmony Central reviews that makes reference to builders in Florida, Charles Bertonazzi and George Scholz. Not sure if this is being offered by the same guys. Have you contacted the seller by email? Tom |

Tom, I haven't contacted the seller. I'm always leary of people who allude to the fact that great builders, who've since passed, have willed them their secrets on their death bed and hope they'll continue the legacy. Were it an original Harry Joyce, I'd snap it up in a minute. Otherwise, the specs seem the same as the Reeves which would cost me $1000 less. |

Hi George has been a friend of mine going on 20 years or so. I knew him back when he was tweaking his Marshalls, HiWatts, and Fenders. He is a friend in whom I have conversed with many times into the early hours of the morning, going over his new designs and current modifications as well as sharing stories of his life in Germany, influential music/musicians, philosphies, and the occasional jam session. In fact he is quite an accomplished musician who went into amplifier, speaker, and processor design because he had not been satisfied with the quality or sound of many products especially off the shelf. He modified my Fender Super Reverb and every recommendation he gave has been gold. He strives for perfection using only the best components, old school mixed with new school design, sturdy, great sound and ready for use. If you are a grunge/thrash/heavy heavy metal muscian who enjoys a wall of distortion without much tone (or in my opinion quality) then his amps are probably not for you. But if like every note to ring true with a tight overdrive clear and sweat then he is your man. His major influence is David Gilmore if that gives you a hint. But he can voice his amps to different sounds but never at the expense of quality. This is why his amps are so expensive. The workmanship (True point to point wiring, top notch components(the best mil. spec. has to offer very very low tolerances),built like a tank for years of service etc... )is beyond compare. What little profit he makes he invests back in his business to improve on his designs. He does not compromise. He does not look into cutting this corner or that for the benefit of profit. He is a musician's muscian who is looking to share his discoveries. It is expensive but worth it if you have the coin. Best Lee Ps I have been a musician for many years and actually have two amps that were modified by George Sholtz; one is George's old Hiwatt, the other a 1973 Fender Super Reverb. All the amps he modified sound great. |

Hello George Sholtz designed many of the early modifications to the Harry Joyce amplifiers(I saw the schematics and a few of the amps). Harry thought enough of George to make George Harry's engineer/designer and carry on in Harry's name after he passed away. It is George design that took over the earlier versions of Harry Joyces amplifiers. I saw the schematics and early prototypes of these as well. He had so much respect for Harry because they thought alike. Both were perfectionists in their own way and each wished to build the best amp possible(Harry Joyce and Reeves are another story);George with his designs and desire for the best production possible,Harry with his craftmanship and experience. I have seen the Sholtz prototype and the same care is there, bueatiful point to point wiring top notch components,etc.. .Harry would be proud. Best Lee |
