Check out www.edromanguitars.com for substantially reduced prices on both in-stock Furthers. If you are in the market, and trust Ed Roman, this could be a pretty good deal. If you are in the market for a Further but don't want to deal with Roman, you might consider using these printed prices for leverage with another dealer who will "match any advertised price." Just FYI. I personally would jump on this if I weren't holding out for a Tribute. By the way, I too noticed these 2 photos appear to be of the same guitar. A sales rep at Ed Roman did confirm they have 2 in stock at this price.

Looking at those serial numbers, the guitars are probably from 2004 or earlier which places them before the last two price increases. Some new pricing rules were implemented since then as well, so no dealer that doesn't already have a new Further that's been sitting in stock for a couple years could match the price.

While the $5K they are currently asking for those guitars may seem like a good price, they also quote list as $9690. According to the Alembic site, list is $7900 today, and I don't know what it would have been two years ago. $7000, maybe? I don't know much about the Further to say what is optional there, but they look pretty stock to me.

If I were interested, I would get a very detailed condition report before committing to a purchase. If they've been sitting in Roman's shop for a couple years, they may have picked up a little play wear.

They both appear to have LEDs which is not stock, but still doesn't account for the whole difference in price especially since nothing is mentioned about a case.

I doubt that the guitars will have much play wear. The folks at Romans don't let the customers play (or even touch) the higher end instruments like they might at a Guitar Center or the like.

If anyone is interested in these guitars, I'd be happy to run over to Ed Romans and have a look at them.

They are both listed as having 5A quilted maple tops. Stock furthers have 3A quilted maple tops. This might explain some of the price discrepancy, though I wouldn't accept the "5A" description on faith, I'd confirm with Alembic first.

They were probably ordered during a "free LEDs" special month. As far as the tops go, I would be surprised if Alembic wasn't using some really impressive top woods for Furthers.
