I have a nice Essence 5 string for sale, it was for sale before but I was holding out for more than the offers I got, so I thought I would try again. I'm holding out for 1500 bucks. feel free to ask any questions you may have, I will do my best to answer them promptly.

Mike's latest Harmony Central listing can be found here; but it doesn't say anything about a case.

Hmmm. I used to own an Alembic many years ago that I bought from a friend, but it got stolen. Unfortunately I didn't realize what I had at the time and didn't bother to write down the serial number. I've been thinking about getting another one and the 5-string Essence looks like a good fit for me. There's one on eBay with a red finish, bids starting at $1550 but nobody has bid. Is that a high price? Seems fairly reasonable to me from what I have seen.

Hi Dennis; welcome to the board. $1,550 is not an unreasonable price for a 5 string Essence in good condition. I think it is the case that most Alembic buyers probably prefer a natural finish rather than the red finish; so I'm guessing that may have an effect on the bidding for the bass on Ebay. Also, the knobs on the Ebay bass are not Alembic knobs, which affects the value a little. And the Ebay bass does not have a case, which also affects the value. Personally, between these two basses, I prefer Mike's; primarily because my personal preference is for a natural finish and because I prefer the Alembic knobs. But that's just my personal preference.

Thanks, Dave. I agree about the finish. Alembic's wood is just so beautiful it's kind of a shame to cover it up, though the grain seems to come through pretty well from the pictures. There's another 5-string Essence with a nice natural finish on eBay that has some people interested but it has a reserve so I don't know what he's wanting to get for it. I think I'll give Mike a call. Thanks again for your help.

Thanks for all the input guys, but the bass is sold. Unforunately now I am alembicless, but I'll be back with a nice series ll, I remember the roman conqueror took my breath away.
