Check this one out. I was going to bid until I saw the back - not that I have anything against naked women, but this inlay is a little cheesy for a 1/4 mil $ IMHO! (LOL)

Interestingly, the guitar is located in Santa Rosa.

According to Rick Turner, there was a luthier named Alan Thompson who worked at Alembic.

the guy posting this auction doesn't have a clue as to anything about this guitar for sure...everything is prefaced with "I am told...", "reportedly...", etc. I would bet he has NO documentation to back up any claims in the listing.

How can you be serious about this, much less a serious bidder?

Doesn't this doofus know that anybody who WOULD bid on it north of a quarter-million dollars is not allowed web access from a mental ward?

Hi all-I think this is my first post. I've been lurking for a bit as I'm pretty obsessed with handmade stuff from 75-85. I can't wait to find an Alembic like the one Mike Hampton used to play with Parliament Funkadelic back in the late 70's. I noticed a few things about this guitar. To me the build quality of the guitar is closer to a Moonstone than an Alembic. The sandwich neck, knobs, and switches are all identical to the old Moonstone stuff from the 70's-early 80's. And $250,000 is still 10 times more than what you'd pay for a PRS Dragon Series 1 right now. Anyways, I'm glad to have found this forum and really appreciate all I've learned from it.

Yeah, it's $250,000, but shipping is free and no payments for three months!

Hi Rollin; welcome to the group! There's a picture of Hampton and his Alembic in this thread. And in this thread there's a link to a video of Hampton playing a solo.

I wonder what kind of scam offers the seller is getting:

"Hi, I'd like to buy your guitar. I have a friend that owes me money so I'll have him send you a check for $500,000 and you just send me the guitar and $250,000 in change, O.K.?"

What, no bids yet? I'm flabbergasted! (LOL)

Dave - great Maggot Brain video! - don't know how I missed that the first time around. Thanks for bringing it to our attention again.

Welcome Rollin - best of luck in your search for a Series I. As I'm sure you've already surmised, used Alembic guitars turn up from time to time - nowhere near the number of used Alembic basses. Even the occasional SI will find it's way to ebay or a music store web site.

Peace
Tom

Thanks for the welcome-Kid Funkadelic is the man! I love that video! Anyways-here's a shot of my Moonstone V-check the knobs, switches, and neck build-it looks pretty close to this $250,000 guitar. I'd pay $2000 for it.
