Hello everyone.

I have two 2005 Orion four string basses for sale. A description of each follows. My playing (if you can call it that) doesn't deserve either of these fine instruments. Neither of them has been gigged with and they have only left the house to go with me on my lesson. They are both in mint condition and have been well taken care of (kept in their cases, fretboards have been lemon oiled every six months, etc.). Photos of each can be found here.

The first is my coco bolo. It was purchased less than a year ago. Alembics original listing is here. It is an awesome bass with incredible tone...just as you'd expect from coco bolo. Mother of pearl inlays and red LEDs definitely set it apart. It has brand new Alembic strings on it. Retail was $5350 and am asking $2,800.

The second bass is a custom based on Alembic's East Meets West. This bass is only 8 months old. The factory to customer thread is here. This bass has a stunning 5A quilted maple top, purple heart accent, and a beautiful ash body with "nearest neighbor" backplates. The fretboard has nicely figured abalone oval inlays. This is an incredible bass and definitely belongs in someone's hands that can really make it sing. Retail was right at $6000 and am will to let it go to a good home for $3,400.

These basses are killer deals considering Alembic's price increases over the last year. As I said, these basses are in the same condition as the day I received them and have never been used in performance.

I wanted to give you Alembicians the first crack at these. You know how nice these instruments are.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

Thanks for your time.

Troy

Very very very tempting, especially since I've been trying to get rid of a Musicman Sterling 4.

Troy:

Just my two cents...

Sorry to see that you're divesting yourself of your new Alembics. While they can essentially be replaced in the future, are you sure you wanna let 'em go? The web pages here are full of "shouldn't of let it/them go" sob stories.

I'm essentially a guitarist (and not a great one at that) who masquerades on bass, and I have a bunch of axes, so most go unplayed for long periods. Regardless, I love 'em all and am not interested in parting with them as some have been mine for more than a quarter of a century. They can be all replaced, but at a much greater cost. I got great deals on my Alembics, none of which will be repeated anytime soon. They are lifetime instruments that I can always go back to.

Personally, and it's just my opinion, I'd keep 'em.

Cheers,

Kevin

Hi Kevin,

It is nice to hear from you. I agree, they can't be replaced but I really have no need for these incredible instruments. While they look and sound incredible (my bass instructor played it once and I couldn't believe it was the same instrument) they would be much better off set free to be played by a professional.

If anyone else has any questions, please feel free to ask.

Troy - you will become a better player, in your own right, when you have a better instrument to practice your craft on.

Trust me, simpler instruments can hold you back.

Gentlemen, I nailed the coco Orion tonight, should be seeing it next Monday I suppose. This is really right up my alley as it is closer to the J bass styling that I'm used to. Can't wait to get my hands on her. Big thanks to Keith H(April COTM Dude!) his opinion and experience w/ his Orions really helped in my decision on getting this bass. This will be a cruisin' & groovin' machine! YeeeeeeHaaaaawww!!!!

Congrats Adam. I can vouch for your last post - I saw the bass just before Troy shipped it. I played it a little bit a few months ago and I would have to say it's an incredible instrument. I'm sorry that Troy let it go but glad it's in good hands. Enjoy! =D

Peace

I take that back...the East Meets West is still for sale. The price has now been dropped to $2400. It is in the same pristine condition as the coco bolo that Adam just purchased.

Thanks Dave,

Well, as you already know, timing is everything with us Alembicians. It will be great to add the Orion to the collection.

Ok, the Orion is currently in Jersey.
I'm offcially going bonkers waiting for it.
Sting/Police line-up is now complete.
We found an amazing sax player, Steling Baily, he's played with Miles, Peter Tosh, etc.
It's a thrill to play this stuff.

John
