Yep, That's club member pmoran's "Mandarin" with THG knobs. He just got a Europa. I guess he's following the malthumb theory of Alembic ownership and trading up. Mike (Message edited by dadabass2001 on June 02, 2006) |

hey, guys. yep, it's my cocobolo MK. i play metal/hard rock and the signature electronics along w/the weight of the bass quite frankly just too much bass for me. i've discovered the europa electronics and those 2 boost switches are perfect for my style music. the tapered neck is also a great feature. so, i'm selling the MK and i'm looking for a good, used series, cutting out the signature electronics option from the middle of my stable of basses. my surines cover that spectrum of sound. so, i'm not giving up on alembics. i'm just going the electronics dial-in sound of europa at one end and series at the other. that should pretty much provide me w/every option i need when deciding what i'm going to play to get a particular sound. i really hate giving up this cocobolo top, though. god, it's gorgeous in person! it's kind of like an experience i had when i was 14 and i caddied for dean martin in a golf tournament. he was messing around w/inger stevens, the actress and she was w/him the whole week. she rode in a cart w/his 4some. so, i'd stand holding dean's golf bag next to the cart and inger would talk to me w/the swedish accent she hid on tv and in the movies. it was intoxicating! i'm 52 and i can still remember exactly how she spoke, looked and smelled! i think some alembics are like incredibly beautiful women. they weave a spell and this damn bass is absolutely bewitching. the first time you actually see it, you're just stunned! |

Patrick, That was what Paul TBO (palembic) nicknamed it in an earlier thread, based on the design in the coco bolo looking like a chinese face with a Fu Manchu moustache. Doing a search on the club reveals six prior threads about the bass. Mike |
