I'd buy this in a HEARTBEAT if I didn't have a red ALEMBIC already. I REALLY want a Elan PJ/Five.

I should start a 'Alembics Look Better in Color' party.

The Elan headstock seems to look better in an inline 4 than a 4+1. But I wonder if those are purpleheart or better yet, ebony neck laminates?

$1600, nice deal, too!

I'm guessing purpleheart, would love to know what the back of the wings are made of. This would only need the dual preamp update (if not already built that way) and changed to a vol/bal/tone to be perfect for me if it's in really good shape. I'd change the chome keys out to gold.

But it's a hell of a price if it's clean, damn if I didn't already have a red one. I REALLY want a P/J bass to alternate with my AXY bass: Two basses, two different sets of tones, the SAME five string neck in two different body shapes. It oughta be against the law!!

Nope . . . just wasn't a good time for me to do it. Still lusting after a P/J5 Elan. There will always be another one, another one, another one . . . . I'm really enamored of two basses with the same neck (classic taper) with two bodies and two entirely different sets of pickups.

Actually, I'm close to getting FatBoys 5/6s for the BigRedBass, so it may have to morph into 'BigRedFatBass' ! !

It should be here in a couple days.... : ) ,
I'm really looking forward to trying out my growing bass rig with the Elan 5...and I owe thanks to Precarius for letting it surface here.
I'll post close-ups after a day of playing..

Kris- No thanks to you for buying it. Now I can try to fool myself into thinking I have some self-control and my bank account and marriage are better off!
