If this does not show what a retard I am, I dont know what will. I think I just pasted the link to my auction at the begining of this post, but I'm not sure! I'm sure I'll figure it out eventually! Sorry guy's! Thanks for inviting me into your Alembic Lair! This auction seems to be creating quite a buzz so I thought I'd come over here to get, info or answer any questions you guy's may have about this bass. I might be able to get my dad to actually post a comment on the correct stream, and make some kind of earthly sense! jkjkjk Talk soon-josh

Hi Josh,

Your father left a post in a thread about another series bass below. And please pass along the groups' well wishes to your father as we feel his pain in having to let this one go.

The bass is fantastic. The question everyone has here is about the bridge. It appears non-standard and we are all wondering what kind of bridge it is and how did it get there, if it was factory installed or not.

Thanks for dropping in the club, and good luck with your auction.

Tom, they have updated the listing on ebay and explain the bridge some. It doesn't say what brand it is but explains a how it got there.

Very tempting. I even testing the water so to speak by bidding on it and my top bid did not last long. There is another series II on ebay at a much higher price though.

I am not a bass player per se. But I did work for Fender guitars for 3 years as a builder/QA inspector, as well as Danelectro guitars, so I have played my share of basses, I've held more in my hands than most people ever-even dream of. I have also owned/ do own some pretty amazing instruments myself from my years at Fender, and some custom James Tyler Guitars. So I do know a thing or two about it. Now I would never normally say this on the Alembic forum, just because I don't want to offend anyone's pride in their own personal instruments, but since it seems to be such a topic not only here but on the auction; the bottom end that this bridge system helps produce is unlike anything any other Alembic has ever even dreamed of sounding like! The sustain, bottom end, playability, it's unreal! That's a fact. It's like playing a guitar with a neck made of stone! I mean the bridge piece is mounted on a half-inch plate of solid brass sunk into the body. Right into the laminate! That’s more direct surface-to-surface contact than the Alembic system has to offer. Uh oh, I’m gonna get it now. I can feel it! The results are pretty astounding! Maybe not to an Alembic purist, but certainly for a working musician! And yes, it can be set up to be used as a tremolo system if you're into that sort of thing. It's not set up for that now, but it does have the holes drilled for it. Bridge is made by Kahler.

Actually jojo, Alembic has been fitting a solid brass sustain block underneath the bridge on their neck thru basses for a number of years. It's also an option for set necks if you wish.

And you're right, the sustain and tone is unheard of. Unless you've already got an Alembic. ;)

How is it that you are familiar with this particular bridge set up?

AN APPEAL TO CLUB MEMBERS looking at the SCB SERIES II.

Hello members. I must make an appeal.

This bass has a special place in my heart. I have been a Sweet Comfor Band fan since I was a little kid. My father actually played this bass when his band opened up for Sweet Comfort Band in Dallas back in '81 I believe. His Series I wasn't working that night for some reason.

I would like to know who else besides myself is really serious about acquiring this Annointed Instrument. This bass was made to do the Work of God and I would like to continue that work.

For those that don't know, I have been a long time re-seller of Alembic Instruments and I have a long history with the Company and it's founders. In addition, I have owned several Alembics and still own two very fine pieces that get played regularly. I'll have to sell one though to acquire this fine piece of Craftsmanship

Now I'm just rambling, because I can't even put into words what it would mean to me to own this instrument.

Please let me know if anyone is a serious as I am about this.

Groove- Thanks for the info on the sustain block option, I did not know that was an option.

I would not say that I was especially familiar with it at all, other than the obvious comparisons that one would make between this bridge system verses bridges on every other bass that one has played.

Don't forget, I learned how to play on this bass, among other Alembics. That is before my Dad bought me my very own Hondo strat copy? WTF is that? That's pretty cruel to do to your own son, don't you think? jkjkjk That's besides the point.

I guess I am a bit more familiar with it than I previousely stated?

I think it's a pretty remarkable piece of engineering, as far as bridges go. Valley Arts Guitar did the actual install, after many, many calls to Santa Rosa! The work was beautifully done.

But I mean it's no washburn wonder bar!!!!!!!!!-josh

I think that is the link Thank you for the intrest in my bass. Its interesting how an instrument can be your voice to the world and this one was the best i ever played. The bridge was done by valley arts in LA with input from alembic. The reason was i wanted more sub low end and adjustmsnt for tuning.

Just havin' some fun Joshua. I am keeping an eye on the bass. I would like to have it but not sure if I'll be able to afford it.
If it's OK with you and your dad I'd like to put his name on our prayer list at church.

Hey Doc, nice to hear from you again!

Sorry you're not getting much response here. Looks like Olie put in a bid before your post, but nothing else obvious since then - and it's not clear to me that you're actively bidding either?

Whatever the case, my best to you, and also (to digress) my thanks. It was a bit sad that you had moved on before my custom was finished, but it was definitely worth the wait. I really appreciate your help, and to this day wonder whether I would have it, had I not connected with you on that original phone call a few years back.

Take care.

Thank you guys so much for the help, and the advice. I don't think the bass could have gone to a better guy than Doc. And I'm so glad it went to somebody here from the Alembic forum! Me and my family are very happy about it. This week has been an adventure to say the least! Scarecrow, I think I'll miss you the most! -josh

I'm glad to see that Doc won the auction.

Congratulations!!

Interesting, that the bass sold for almost EXACTLY what I had in as a snipe bid - until I withdrew it out of courtesy. I guess that I'm getting pretty good at setting a market value for Alembics - in my old age!

Again Doc, congratulations and ENJOY!

Chris
