Wow, There are just SO many nice Alembic's on Ebay right now. Too strange!!! Series 1 & 2 basses, Series 1 pickups, a sweet Distillate and one I've NEVER seen before! http://cgi.ebay.com/Alembic-HLSB-PLus-Bass-Guitar_W0QQitemZ7422524234QQihZ016QQcategoryZ4713QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.com/Alembic-1984-Distillate-Bass-Guitar-w-HSC-Near-Mint_W0QQitemZ7422675901QQihZ016QQcategoryZ4713QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem |

OK . . . So what's an 'HLSB-Plus'? I'd have guessed Elan. And WHO is this 'Michael Wickersham'? J o e y |

I am intrigued by the dark/light theme in the wood choice, ...the HLSB + threw my for a loop too. kris |

"H" is the letter code for an Elan (like you'd find in the serial number), LSB is for long scale bass, and the "plus" refers to the Elan plus electronics, which offer quick tone change switches for treble & bass in addition to the volume, tone, pan & q-switch. |

I don't know what Hojin means, but that was the first Elan customer's name. I am Michael, Mica is my nickname. Many Elan Plus basses were originally sold to Washington Music. Once we brought out the Europa, the Elan Plus faded away from the line. |

Hi, "Hojin" is his first name. He is "Hojin Egawa" and well known professional bassist as Slap master in Japan. I search his Elan's info, but I don't get it. Eiji |

Thanks MIKE! By the way, this guy in another post said his Series 1 was modified in Santa Rosa at your shop by some guy who signed the ticket as RJW . . . I told him he still works there and you guys would stand behind his work! You too, Eiji. J o e y |

Hey, this one is much cheaper! There was a link here to the same six string Alembic mentioned above offered by someone in China. Of course this was a fraudulent listing and there are many like this. I removed the link because the item has been removed, no need to look at nothing... I strongly suggest not to send any money to these guys! (Message edited by fc_spoiler on July 05, 2006) |

....with a sweet litle child, a girl I think, sitting down trying to play the thing (a big old silver Sousaphone, I believe.) Ya, reckon he just posted the wrong pic, or what? By the way, FC, did you sell the Ripper Fretless yet? |

Thanx for the details! forgot to mention those... I'm not in a hurry selling the Ripper, Elans are hard to find too... Have had some reactions though and maybe it will come to a point were I take the bass to the US personally to swap it for an Elan, I do need a vacation and that would be a great one! Will not be this year though, but we'll see... Cheers! F.C. |

Hey Mica - Washington Music is only 5 miles away from where I am in Silver Spring, MD. Are they still an Alembic Dealer? How many instruments do they order from you assuming they still are. Do they order throughout the year or place a larger qty order at one time. Also, Does Alembic deal direct with the public? Could one of the members of this forum by directly through you rather than dealing with guys at Washington Music? Thanks - Dennis Maron Silver Spring, MD |

If I'm going to make the trip to the US of A I am certainly going to include a visit to the Alembic temple. They have a Showroom and from what I understand (...and thet's not much-LOL-), you can buy the basses that are displayed there... Also I think you can order custom instruments directly from Alembic, I'm not sure though... |

btw if Washington music is only 5 miles away it would be approx. 1 1/2 hour walking, 1/2 hour on the bicycle or 5 min. with a car... would be the quickest way to get your first questions answered.. Sorry I didn't include travel time with a plane.. I'm not that familiair with airports, boarding time, etc in your region... (think it would be something like 5 hours, but that's just a wild guess...) Cheers! F.C. (Message edited by fc_spoiler on August 03, 2006) |

Hey fellow Dutchman - the main office of the company that I work for happens to be in Rockville, MD. Pretty close to where Washington Music is, I tseem to remember. Problem is I go there perhaps once every 5 years. |

Dennis, Alembic lists Washington Music as an authorised dealer. WM's website shows a number of Alembics, I haven't seen much rotation with the on-line stock. If I lived that close I'd pay them a visit for no other reason than to talk to someone about options and what to expect when ordering. Yes, you can deal directly with Alembic, but don't be surprised if using a dealer to place your order is part of your initial conversation. |

Flip, didn't know you were job hunting? You're sure you're not just shopping for a free ticket across the Atlantic? I seem to remember people mentioning that WM's stock is larger than advertized. |

Hey guys good info. I knew I was being obvious, I could call and ask rather than waste Mica's time. Has anyone dealt with WM? Chuck Levins? The store is always packed with beginners cranking the amps to 11 and playing smoke on the water. Jesus! I needed strings and waited 40 mins because the guy behind the counter kept helping people on the phone. I felt like jumping the counter and throat checking that sumbich! Okay okay......I need a vacation! needless to say I've had some pretty shitty dealings with that store, hence my ? in the first place. Take care all! DM |

Aaahh Chuck's - Yes you need patience at Chuck's, but then did you pick a 'busy' time? Try to get there early in the day. It's in a busy area, so most times it is packed. I usually allow for an hour inside even if it's just to buy a set of strings. Know exactly what you want when you go in, so they can breeze thru. Also, they are right up the hill from a Metro station as well. And Washington Music is down the hill, around the corner. My Elan is a Chuck's special I picked up at a pawn shop - I went in and was able to ask Chucks about it before I bought it from the pawn shop. Thawnk! |

I've bought a couple of custom Spoiler 6's and a 7 fretless and a MM Petrucci 7 guitar from Brian over there. Always a pleasure. Bumped into him as well at NAMM and when I did a short tour a while ago. Great prices from my pov. They are one of the largest and most successful stores in the U.S. Hense the long wait. I'm told most business is done via phone and web. Ask for Brian and tell him Danno from Doomtree in Jersey says hello. |
