Well sorry, I didn't get the series I but i do have a 1996 Anniversary Jazz Bass five string, limited edition # 073 of 500. here are it's features:
-Text from the 1996 Fender press release-
Exclusive features on these once in a lifetime instruments
include: gold plated American Standard hardware,
highly figured maple veneer top and back, Antique Sunburst finish,
vintage pickups and electronics, white plastic parts,
and black tolex vintage case with orange plush interior and vintage
Fender nameplate. In addition, each model is equipped with a specially
engraved neck mounting plate with the Fender 50th Anniversary logo
and limited edition serial numbering (i.e., 1 of 2,500).
A definite must for every collection!

It's in slightly used condition, all original. The pick guard is signed by several metal bands, Machine head, cro mags, madball but can easily be replaced (available through Fender)
It's a very fine bass but I found out that five strings just isn't my cup of T...
This fine bass can be yours if you wanna part with your Elan, Europa or Rogue
Here are some pictures:

Dude, how much for just the pickguard? Cromags and Machine Head are two of my favorites. I consider "Best Wishes" in my top 5 albums of all time. The bass line on "Then and Now" is sublime.

If I sell the bass and the buyer agrees on a new pickguard, I'll let you know. It was signed on july the first of 2000 at the Waldrock festival in Holand.
I got a backstage pas because in the first (always local) band played a friend of mine. I let him use my Ampeg / Mesa rig. Our dressing room was between Cro mags and Madball! Very cool indeed!
Cheers!

That same day I got a T-shirt (Ice hockey type) which also got signed by the bands mentioned above. I was standing on the stage when Motorhead was playing (my ears still go: Beeeep!) when I noticed a small, bold, enormous bearded person next to me...
He got the whole back of the shirt to put his signature on, it was Kerry King - Slayer metal lord!
Sadly I had the pickguard already in a secure place by then and that was the only member of Slayer I saw backstage that day...
On my site: www.fcbass.tk you can see my Fender Prodigy Bass which is signed by:
Jerry Only - Misfits - 1996
Doyle - Misfits - 1996
Michale Graves - Misfits - 1996
Joey Z - Life of Agony - 1995
Alan Robert - Life of agony - 1995
Marky Ramone - Ramones / Misfits - 2005

This one is also for sale, bidding starts at $15000:-
Do I hear $15500? -LOL-
Cheers!

P.S. Where are those die hard Fender fanatics with a dusty Elan in their closet?

Dude, those stories rock!! If I'd seen the honorable Mr.King or Mr.Flanagan in person, I think I would have soiled myself.

Next Friday I get to see Anthrax in concert...that's about as good as it gets here in the boonies. Hopefully Mr.Bello will bust out the "Got the Time" solo!

Regards,

Will

The Fender is a very nice bass. I'm glad this bass is now owned by someone who is a real 5 stringer. Some of the instruments from this anniversary series are in the hands of collectors who have opened the case once, they never played the instrument waiting for the price to go up.
I've had this as wall decoration for years... never could get used to the 5th string.
Now this bass will get the stagetime she deserves!
(same to the Spoiler I got)

Thanx to everyone who cared to look at this thread,

Cheers!
