Not too expensive; could be a great deal for someone.

I'm definitely interested in this one. I wonder what the electronics actually are, though.

Wow, Essence body, as Adrian says!

Purpleheart neck lams...but is that a single piece back, or some sort of weird set neck assembly with stripes continuing up the front?

I'd bet: through neck with full back wood.

Neat!!!

It sure looks like a neck through. The core looks like it could be mahogany. I also see what looks like a maple veneer between the core and back wood. Nice guitar.

"Has volume, bass, and treble controls.
On, Off, bright for each pickup."

But three knobs, and three switches, and an extra battery cover on the back (isn't it?) - would you say it might have LEDs?

Effclef,
The Essence has a separate battery cover for a single 9 volt (not enough room in the controls compartment). If this had LEDs, there would be another cover/compartment to hold 4 9volt batteries.
So we're still guessing what the third switch is.

Ah, thanks, Mike, I forgot about the Essence body needing the separate compartment. I wonder if this guitar is a direct Essence body shape or if it was scaled down?

Still, very neat and I bet there'll be interest in the auction.

At first glance, it looks more like Rogue/Europa electronics...but if he says bass/treble....hmm?

Are we looking at the same guitar?

The plastic compartment covers scream lower end model, so I'm guessing the Orion--or at least the Orion body shape. It comes stock with three knobs and a toggle pickup selector switch. I'm guessing the customer ordered a Q switch for each pickup [to bring the number of toggles up to three].

The lace wood would be an upgrade, as would the purpleheart lams. But as to the construction, it sure looks like a set neck to me.

Perhaps we could have Mica weigh in on this one?

It's now a fact. I love lacewood.

If you look at the heel of the neck on the back of the guitar, You can see body wood underneath the neck. This would tell me it's a set neck. If it were a true neck through, the neck would be going all the way to the back laminate I believe. Also, volute on neck by nut which is common to set neck Alembics.

Anyway, great idea, great guitar.

Oops. Didn't notice the core being under the neck.
You are correct Tom, I would expect a neck through to have the neck bisect the core body woods down to the back wood.

To me this seems a neck through with bookmatched to center back, also there isn't a veneer on the back of the headstock, I'm not sure but I think that's unusual for Alembic?
One thing we can be sure of: this is a very custom guitar!
Cheers!

About two weeks ago I was looking at Pele and my custom bass, and pondered the thought of having had Pele made in a similar body to my custom for a true pair, and here it is, almost. I think it makes a great guitar body, and it's nice to see one.

Personally, I would bet that it is the same as this one in a different body style.

For those too lazy to click through, we had a "Custom Orion" listed a few months ago with the same faux neck through appearance. The controls look very Orion, but I think it would be hard to mistake quick tone change switches for on/off/bright. The seller does mention that he thinks it is of the Europa style, so maybe it does have Orion controls?

I do agree that the only way to know for sure is to post the serial number (01C12542) for Mica to look up. I'll do that if no one else has of yet.

If you hit the link in Bob's post for the ebay listing, it's the same seller....Interesting

Personally, I think it is an Orion guitar with an Essence body and made to appear as a neck through.

It is a set neck guitar, but not an Orion. It's a custom guitar.
The electronics are Europa-style, the plates are from the essence model, like the body.

A custom does not have to fit in any particular instrument category, since it usually has elements taken from several different instruments so my advice is just take it as a custom and appreciate it for what it is. :-)

Yeah, thanks! Outside of the semantics, I think I read it correctly. I think I would prefer the Skylark electronics package, but may still take a shot at this one.

I emailed the seller and asked him a few routine questions and he said he bought the guitar new in 2001. I asked him what kind of guitar it is and his answer was, "It is a custom Europa style" and he said it is "One of a kind." He emailed me right back, which is a good sign. Looks like a very nice guitar.
