OK I may regret this later but it won’t be the first time. I have a lovely 1977 series I medium scale small body bass (serial number 77-755) priced for quick sale to fund the buy back of an exploiter that got used for trade bait for a series II. I always regretted getting rid of that bass. Unfortunately, I can only have so many high dollar instruments laying around. This instrument is the newest one on the block, so if any one of them has to go, it’ll have to be this one. It comes with a beat-up OHSC, non-alembic 5-pin cable and blue box power supply. It has been recently refretted and setup by Mike Lull for rotosound medium gauge round wound strings. The action and playability on this instrument are unequalled. It’s also relatively light for an Alembic at about 9.5 Lbs.

This used to be Manfreds’ bass. It is definitely a player, not a museum piece. It has done a number of gigs with me and believe me when I tell you (because I have a bad back) that you can rock all night long with this baby strapped on. It has a small crack on the rear by the control panel. I had it looked at and it is non-structural. The top is amaranth, I believe.

Priced at $3000 plus shipping. I’d rather not ship this overseas. Based on prior experience it would be at least $300 USD for over seas shipping.

Make me an offer that I can’t refuse. Any questions? My email’s in my profile.

KFS - You know what I like! I have contacted Tim earlier about this bass. I would really love to grab this one, but right now I have a major construction project taking up all of my resources $$$$$. I sort of made him an offer, but I am sure he can get more. With rebuilding my house and hopefully restoring all of my basses, I have my hands and wallet full right now.

More bills than money, and more money than sense? That sounds familiar for some reason...hmmm...
How's the home repair project coming? Even the more recent shots of NOLA I've seen have been heartbreaking. Luck.

*sigh* If only I could spend the money I would be all over this. I've been harboring a secret small scale late 70's Series I/II fantasy for about the last year and it doesn't get more perfect than this. Oh well.

KFS - It is a SLOW process. I finally got all the mold taken care of. Then the electrical, structural then of course the inspections! Awful process. After going on almost a year now, I am finally going to get sheetrock in a couple of weeks. I am pumped! As you can imagine, everything is slow and expensive. Prices for labor and construction are more than double the prices before the storm. And of course, it all depends on shopping around. For example, sheetrock installers here are charging anwhere from one dollar a square foot to seven dollars a sq foot, depending on who does the job. It is insane! I am really learning more than I want to know.

That looks like a nice bass! I really would give it a good home, but right now I am just so involved with all this storm foolishness. I think I may pass on this one. I know I will kick myself later. Not many medium scale small standards running around I would think.

Yeah, I think you already have the other two they made...I, too, would love to bring this one home but would have to unload another expensive bass to do so.
A year later and you finally exterminated the mold? Good Lord. You're a far more patient man than I, who would have built an all-new home out of Legos and Krazy Glue by this point.
Think about it -- waterproof and cheap. ;)

i've had a lot of interesting offers for this bass. however, as accommodating as i'd like to be, i really need to get my asking price for it. i'm not in a particular rush to sell it (i noticed the exploiter auction closed with no bidders) and at this point, i'm not prepared to take less money for it than i have put into it.

i will entertain a serious cash offer for my bass (or perhaps a trade plus cash for a similar Distillate Exploiter). if that exploiter gets relisted, i may put mine up for auction as well to fund its purchase....or not....

I should have posted this earlier but I have not had the time. This is final exam week for summer semester and I have had a ton of papers to grade.
I really appreciate the info you emailed me about the bass. The nut is about as narrow as they get and the scale length is short, not medium.
Measuring 15.25 inches from the nut to the 12th fret indicates the scale is 30.5.
In my case this is good news, but I can't justify spending $3000 right now. Perhaps if I sell some of my other instruments I can afford it.
I hope everything works out.

I was up north a day longer and had too many inputs of opinions. In the end I also couldn't justify purchasing that beautiful series 1 for it would've been my third Alembic and 9th bass overall. I was reminded that what I really need is a 24 track mixing board. In 2003 I would've grabbed it quick.

Good luck on the sale, Tim

I am the one who purchased Tims's series I. I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for UPS to deliver it. I checked the other bids on Ebay, turns out I out bid the highest bidder by $2.99. So much for not being able to buy much for $2.99 these daze :-)

I'm really looking forward to playing a short scale (never played one before). Currently I'm playing a series I medium scale and it's pretty comfy to play. I've played long scale basses and they are not all that comfortable for me so hopefully a short scale will be very comfortable to play.

Thanks Tim :-)

I was at home and kept refreshing the Ebay screen to see where it would sell. I really flipped in my head about this one as I've always wished to have a small body Series 1 bass but realized I need to invest more into my home recording studio. I remember a time when I didn't think about what I NEED to do.

I also remember a time when every bit of music gear I owned could fit into the back of a Toyota pickup truck.

Congratulations to both seller and buyer. I sure am glad that bass isn't out there anymore for the temptation was painful.

Good catch, Brian.

I look forward to hearing a report on the Exploiter when it arrives, Tim.
