That's mostly about basses that were appearing. These guitars were real and the necks were made by Modulus. |

I can see why there is confusion. In the post by Mica she said that Alembic has never manufactured an instrument with a bolt on neck. So the Modulus necks are a legitimate exception? Rich |

I've been searching for a while, but haven't found it yet... there is a picture somewhere on this board with the same logo, I think Mica says it's a fake... |

I don't know the history of these things but the topic comes up periodically. Do a search for Modulus and you'll find a bunch of info. As far as I can tell, it wasn't made by Alembic, but you can't legitimately call it a fake either. |

As I understand it, Modulus, started by Greg Gould, I believe his name was, pioneered the use of carbon fiber to manufacture guitar and bass necks. He was friendly with the folks at Alembic and worked in conjunciton with them. The Blacknife guitar was made by Modulus under an agreement with Alembic that allowed use of the name. Bob Weir used to play one. Here's a link with more info on Weir's instrument: http://dozin.com/bobs/guitars/index.htm There are others around here that are more familiar with the Modulus story, I believe David Fung knows a bit about these. I suspect someone will check in with more info. The neck is legit, and while private listings on eBay usually scare me off, I'd think if this was a scam, the seller would at least pretend the neck was in much better shape. Bill, tgo |

So we can conclude this neck hasn't been made by Alembic but the Alembic logo seems to be official (licenced) Being an obstinate guy, I still think the anonymous buyers (14 now!) are at least suspicious.... (Message edited by fc_spoiler on July 23, 2006) |
