Hello All,
I don't know if this is a gauche question for this group, but looking around the group makes me think it might be an okay place to ask:
Anybody care to weigh in on what this might be worth? I'm just pulling it out of my closet where it's been since I bought it from Brian Smith at the Alembic shop (as in woodworking shop. I don't recall them having a front room, even.)in (I think)late summer/early fall 1972.
It's lovely, though it's not a finished, polished-up product. Brian said they had taken it apart and reassembled it a number of times. They never made any more like this, I understood at the time. It has all the usual Ur-Alembic wood and craftsmanship, but a unique, tiny violin-shaped body.
Unplayed. I never even put a strap peg on it.
When I got it home, it just never seemed to feel like it fit me. So it's been in the case for almost 31 years.
Number 72 05 stamped on the top edge of the head.

It's wasted sitting in my coset. What's it worth and to whom? Is someplace the perfect place to offer it? Anyplace to avoid?
Thanks in advance for helping part with this wonderful memento of my hippie musiciandom.
Cordially,
Doug

Hi Doug, you came to a good place for the info. Do you have any pictures of it that you could post?

Doug-

Paul's right - this would be the place. I'd say if you can't find the right home for it here, you won't find a good home for it.

And, yes, please post some pics if possible. Even those of us bass players who don't know that much about pricing 6-strings would love to see that early piece of Alembic history.

I would agree that this is definately the best place to start. If it were a small standard bodied bass, I know a buyer. Wink, wink.
I too would LOVE to see pictures of this instrument.
