I know this is a familiar appeal on this site, but will someone PLEASE buy this. I had a Koa Elan until recently and this thing is calling my name. I DO NOT need another bass right now but I am forgetting why that is the case.

Help!!!

Hello all and thanks for welcome 57basstra!
Looks like the BIN is history with a few bids on it and looky looky no reserve and 9 days to go. He's in it for the long haul. dwmark..someone will end up with this beauty for sure! Timing is everything. GAS hit me and I snatched a spoiler. Just waiting for it to arrive.

Welcome from me, too. Think you may end up with more than the BIN if this is dangling in front of all of us for better than a week.

Good luck.

Folks,

Go into the Showcase and look at Alembickoa's (Steve Smith)first post from 2002. This is the same bass. The seller claims to have had this bass for 23 years. We can tell from the photos that Steve Smith owned this bass in 2002 and for some time before that. SCAM????

Notice that it is a private auction, payment by personal check, cashiers check or money order. Hmmmmmmm.

Peace, (and be careful out there)

Here is a picture of Alembickoa's bass from 2002

Compare the little dark vertical "scar" to the left of the bird tailpiece to the same figure on the eBay bass. Unless Steve is the seller, this is a scam.

"FYI Ron Blake, who is currently my #1 Luthier, entirely built Stanley's Carl Thompson Piccollo Bass."

That statement from the auction confuses me. It seems like Carl Thompson probably would have built the Carl Thompson bass...

I remember that claim about Ron Blake - it was made by none other than Ed Roman.

There are plenty of luthiers who sell instruments with their name on it, but who employ people to (co)build the instruments. Like Fodera, to name but one.

... but it smells pretty fishy indeed.

Just checked the eBay auction. There's a big quote from Ed Roman's site, but they do mention the name.

So perhaps not fishy - at least not because of the quote.

Hey Guys

Not sure how legit this guy is but he seems to be willing to say anything or do anything. This bass was orignally on Craigslist for $2700. I tried to contact him with no response then by chance he saw a picture of my Koa Series I and contacted me by trying to feel me out on a sales price. He stated, "Rory if you have to sell it what will the Koa go for ?? or should I ask if you don't mind How much are you paid for it. ?? I am looking for use one not sure how much the go for.. please share your thought so I know what price to be paid if I ever found one...". At this point he did not realize I knew who he was and I knew he already owned one supposedly. Also not sure why he did not admit he owned a Series bass and was trying to sell it and what was a good selling price!
There seems to be different thoughts of what is good and what is not in his ad as well. He states in his ad, "This gave them some advantages tonally. Plus it allowed some cool options like LED's (light emitting diodes) for position markers." He answers someones question with,"No leds, it was an option that came later, they light up the side position makers on the fretboard and usually fail after a few years of use. bad idea if you ask me, it puts wiring inside your neck, and a extra stain on your power supply.more of a gimmick than anything else." Again, I won't say he doesn't have the bass but I think he is willing to say or do anything to sell it. Good luck, buying a Postal Money order and getting it to him in three days if you are the lucky winner!

What's the chance of getting him to disclose the serial number now that there's 3 days left and the bids at $2905????????

I got a reply from the seller. Response was "I don't give out numbers, and he still refused to say what the serial number was, imagine that. I've emailed Steve ,(alembickoa) to see if he can shead light on this.

Did anyone e-mail Steve for info on this bass? I did:

TK...

That is my old bass, and it is completely misrepresented by the buyer. I sold it here in Santa Cruz earlier this year. That bass is in great shape, but not as he says. Let the club know.

Regards...
Steve

Steve says it is there and his, but is being misrepresented. That could mean circumstances and/or current condition. I figured the auction was legitimate when I first saw it and almost popped the $2,800 BIN, but something held me back. I knew the seller was talking crap, but that did not bother me much. This is not the bass for me, so I passed on it. I hope someone who it fits better gets it, and everything is good for him or her.

$4,150 - I should've popped that $2800 BIN as soon as I saw it.
