Hello fellow Alembic devotees, I currently own an Epic 5 fretless QMT - my better half!lol - I adore this bass. Ive been using a Fender for my fretted work, but I need a fretted Alembic to complete my sound. Really need a Series 1/2 or a signature mod ( luv Custom K's aswell!!). In the UK they are so rare its unbelievable - and the registered distributer is selling used Series 1/2 models for the same price as brand new equivalents would cost direct from alembic!!! So I need a private sale as I am not a wealthy man, If anyone has any ideas that could help me then do a post!! Also, please comment on these hardships suffered by UK and to a lesser extent, European musicians who are being priced out of the market for the few high-end Alembics we have over here. Thanks guys |

Robbie- There are several used series I basses up for sale in the For Sale & Trade section. If you go there now, the first two basses listed are late 70's Series I's. Good luck finding what you need! BTW: if you think Alembics are rare in the UK, you should try getting one in NZ =) |

I hear you friend, NZ must be worse geographically But we have this insane exchange rate here, the £ is so strong that American products get sold for way too much here!- shops make too much profit! even on mass produce like Fender!!! PS I am a bit paranoid of getting Alembic from USA due to shipping issues - if i put out for my Alembic and it got damaged, even slightly - well i couldnt be held responsable! - It has happenen with other musical instuments. I could be wrong though, THNX tbrannon - what basses do you have |

I hear what you're saying about shipping- but there is insurance- after all Alembic ships 'em all around the world. Mine made it from Georgia to NZ without a scratch. Here is a link to my Rogue. I've had it about 2 months and I wish I had taken the leap years ago... http://alembic.com/club/messages/411/25827.html?1159917310 Toby |

That stack isn't mine- it belongs to Charles (who I bought the Rogue from). He started the thread and I just posted a couple pics when it arrived here. Charles has a beauty of a setup doesn't he? Someday......=) Shipping wasn't cheap, but it wasn't a limiting factor either. There are plenty of UK based Alembic owners here on the forum. If you posted your shipping question, I'm sure others would share their shipping experience with you. I think that my experience was probably *not* normal- NZ is probably far more expensive than you'd find it would cost to get stuff to the UK. |

Good Idea - Ill open up a shipping thread! but if It wasnt too bad for NZ?, I should cope ok in Uk! ps What amp do you use Toby, Im using a Good Laney bass setup, but I feel that with my Alembic the amp just is not good enough to fully represent the sound at a decent volume - Im needing a Mesa or maybe Fender tube setup! |

Robbie- My rig is decidedly un-hifi. I have an Eminar 100w tube head. Eminar is an Aussie company. My head is from the mid 70's- it's reliable and has that nice warmth that tube amps can provide. I play through a combination of cabs- I have 3 homebrew cabs (1x15, 2x12, 2x10) and I recently bought a GK 4x10. I'd love to upgrade the whole lot someday and go the same route that so many guys here use (poweramp + a preamp), but gear is VERY limited here. Not a whole lot to choose from and the stuff that is here costs about 3x what you'd expect to pay in the U.S. and probably double what you'd find in the UK. Either way, I can tell you this much- my Alembic sounds better than any other bass I've played through the same setup. |

Yeah it is that. But it may be worth keeping an eye on the site just in case a bargain appears. We do pay a premium on this side of the pond for Alembic stuff. Well at least there is some centre spread quality bass porn on there. LOL Jazzyvee |
