Check out the sticker prices on these reportedly Jerry Garcia owned Travis Bean guitars at Maverick Music. I really don't get it.

I guess the figure if one could afford 750k for the guitar 20k for a strap would be no-problem.

I wouldn't buy a guitar that cost more than my house. :-) and a strap that costs more than my car.

A while back that site was selling - or trying to sell- Gary Moore's "Peter Green" Les Paul for a million bucks. Go figure.

There's also a $30K JG strap and a $25K JG tour jacket. There's a limit to what provenance adds to value, IMO. A mid-1970s Travis Bean is nothing special in and of itself, but I wouldn't be surprised if the dealer gets something close to these prices. There's a sucker born every minute and two vintage dealers to take him to the cleaners. I could commission the crazed Series II I have designed and pocket the leftover $10K for the price of those two straps!

Now those Zemaitis instruments were something special and very cool.

Wow, that is amazing. It's a fairly high probobility that these were Jerry's what with the type of mods, but to elevate the price beyond the abilities of a mere muscian to afford is sinful. These should be played! That's what Jerry did with them to superb result.

This just goes to show, it's only worth as much as someone will pay for it.

Like anything else here how would you actually prove this is authentic? For the price even a written document would have to be taken at face value. You'd need a lot of researching and unless you're the expert in this arena I like the "fool and his money" line! If this is worth it to someone so be it. It's on them. I agree that unless you're really small you can't live in a strap. I think fair market value should rule and the people that routinely jack up the prices all in the name of free enterprise should be avoided.

In '97 I was touring the FBI building in DC, and in their display on fraud, they claimed that autographed celebrity memerobilia WITH a certificate of authenticity is fake 85% of the time. (Of course, they also had a pill press that they said was used to "press LSD powder into tablets", so....)

To all SG owners. Now your gibson can sing just like rosebud.Documented by a diehard deadhead, one set of strings recovered from lounge area at a greatful dead concert after jerry changed his strings.these strings are packaged in a pre zip lock baggie with a curious smell inside.also comes with a picture of jerry holding his guitar with these very same strings installed. $12000.00 The perfect addition for your $ 20,000.00 guitar strap. Method of payment,Cash in a plain brown wrapper. Drive 3.2 miles down hicksville road, turn right on ripoff ave go 1 mile and stop behind dumpster, Blow horn 3 times.

Maverick is a pretty reputable place. Their clientele are high-end collectors. They never list any item that cannot be 100% verified. I am sure they have paperwork up the wazoo on these two guitars. Seeing as these guitars have been played and photographed extensively with JG, they'll probably find some collector somewhere that will buy them. I do agree that the hype surrounding "celebrity owned" guitars has gotten a little crazy lately.

I love Jerry as much as the next 'head, but I wouldn't pay extra for his axe unless his chops came with it. And his strap? Knock 3 zeros off the end and we can talk.
