Was wondering why the line wasn't straight but am not good enough with the computer equipment to blow it up. I may be choosing a top wood for a custom bass that has a small amount of sapwood and assumed I'd have it cut out. Any thoughts on leaving it in (to avoid hijacking the thread, I'll rephrase--what does the group think of the look on this bass)? |

I'm not fond of it. To me it looks unbalanced with wavy edges of the sap wood and straight lines of the neck. Too bad as I am looking for a small body Series. Keith |

On various FTC & Wood Bank threads, I've seen posts asking if the customer wants to use the sap wood, and wondered why on earth you would. Now I know. It gives a very organic look, like the neck & body grew together (maybe it would look even better without the neck framing, or BTC?) I don't know that I'd have one built like this, but if I weren't completely freakin' broke, I'd think long and hard about this one. Very nice. Peter |

Beautiful bass with an awfully big price. But Willie has never been known to offer bargains on anything. |

I'm just impressed on how they got the top seams to merge and melt in. WOW!! What a masterful example of craftsmanship. Whether the look is or isn't to you're liking, there's no doubt in my mind anyway, it will find a home. KFS I'd agree with your first statement. OH yeah! NLP |

I just saw the price, WOW. Looks like the strap button on the back has been moved too. It's still a very nice axe. |

I looked at the Series II at Willies yesterday. The store was packed, and my time was short. The power supply wasn't available (they were short staffed, and I didn't make them run to the basement to find it). There were a few issues: I think some of the cover plate screws are not original, and 1 is missing from the battery cover. The non-original screws look larger than stock, and I would be concerned that the threaded inserts had pehaps been stripped forcing the larger screws in. There is either a crack or a deep scratch on the fingerboard pickup. The nut is not adjustable, the fingerboard LEDs are unbound (as you would expect on a 1978). Other than that, it is a marvelous bass. If someone wants a more detailed report, let me know and I will try to get back to Willies during a lunch break this week.
