Edwin van Huik's shop is expecting a standard point medium scale Series II with what looks like a mutant maple or myrtle top. No price up yet.

OMG...
I need to stay away from Edwin's shop for a while, or leave my wallet at home....

It's a beaut.

Btw, the tailpiece appears to be attached quite far away from the bridge. I've never seen it this far back. Why would that be?

My guess would be that it's conveniently intended for the bass to be used with long scale strings.

This 1996 Alembic Series II bass is now officially for sale.
I've seen the bass and it's in absolute mint condition. It looks like it has been played only a few times.
If anybody is interested in this bass, email me or Edwin van Huik at manfredderooy@planet.nl or (Edwin) bass@connectionbult.com. Remember, for people in the US that there is a returned US goods option. So no tax.

The bass comes with 19 inch D5-R power supply, five pin cable, original case.

Here are the specs.:
Series II 1996, 32 inch scale neck.
Top and back burl maple
Red side leds, red front laser leds (plus dimmer)
Gold plated hardware.

And here are some pictures:

Alembic 1
Alembic 2
Alembic 3
Alembic 4
Alembic 5

Sorry folks. I should have offered my S2 to you all first before listing on Ebay. But, in my defense, parting with your first Alembic is not a rational thing to do.

Andy, it's a 34" scale.

I'm guessing she weighs 12 or 13 Lbs. Don't know for sure, but she's comfortable with a 4" wide Alembic strap.

So you'll understand why I'm not completely crazy to let her go, here's a picture with her two big sisters.

Lovely arsenal of bass playing weaponry there.
BTW is that disk on the wall for record sales?

Thank you... it is! The owner of Deaf Dog Music in Chicago sold it to me in 2005. He had two and really wasn't playing either. He kept "Goldilocks", the February 2001 featured custom. I think I got the better one. The standard point is heavier but it balances better. The picture doesn't really show off the burl walnut, it's really beautiful. I bought the Europa for live gigs. I only use the Alchemy in the studio and on special occasions.

I wish the disk was for record sales, but it's not. It's a master 12 inch laser video disk from the pre-DVD era. I did produce the video, but it was for specialized computer based training. Nothing particularly glamorous, but it was the leading edge at the time.

Chris, did your friend get Goldilocks off eBay? I saw it go by a year or more ago ... for less than $6000 I think. I've always loved that one, and when I tell people about Alembics, I surf them to the FC Goldilocks thread. The quilted maple looks like butterscotch.

No, John was the original owner. I don't know him that well, but it doesn't surprise me if he sold Goldilocks. The reason I was able to buy the Alchemy was because business was slow for his studio. I don't think John plays much anymore, but I bet it was still a tough decision to sell Goldilocks.

effclef,

I stand corrected. I just checked the dates of my purchase against the Goldilocks thread and it looks like John sold Goldilocks first. I could have sworn he still had it when I bought my Alchemy bass from him. In the Goldilocks thread he said he was selling it because had others like it, maybe it was one of those I was thinking of. In any case both came from the same original owner.

OK, well I am glad you found a home for one of them and I'm envious of whoever got GL from ebay! That was quite a sight.

I am astonished. I was sure that the late bidding would take it well above the start price.

It's one of those beauties that I can hear calling my name.

I think my reluctance to accept PayPal for the entire amount might have caused resistance. However, several people have emailed me as a result of its appearance here and I might have a buyer soon. We'll see. But, it won't break my heart to keep her...depending on how much grief my wife gives me. Although she actually got teary thinking about me selling my first Alembic.
