OK so I these pickups but I am not sure of the model... I think MXY56

Edit: I just checked and yes they are MXY56s

The leads are 9" and about 15". The dims are: 4 1/4" Long (5" tab to tab) x 1 3/16" Wide x 3/4" Deep.

I will trade 2 MXY56s for 2 fatboys, 2 AXY4s or one of each...

Thanks, Joe at warriorjoe007@hotmail.com

You do know that the MXYs are quite a bit narrower than AXYs and FatBoys? FatBoys are too large to fit into MXY routings ...

Yes just like 4 string pickups won't fit into a 6 string cavity. These are deinitely not for the same bass the 6 string pickups came out of... MXYs and Fatboys are the same size as what I need for my 4...

I'm interested in the original bass that the pickups came out of--whatever condition it might be in now. Is it for sale? PM me.

Joe,

My understanding of the terms "narrow" and "large" is that they relate to width, rather than length.

AXYs have the same size of outer shell as the single coil pickups on the Series instruments, but inside there's a smaller magnet, with two coils in humcancelling mode.

MXYs are exactly the same pickups as the AXYs, but the shell is narrower.

Fatboys are AXYs that use the large magnet from the single coils - so they are different pickups in identical shells, where MXYs and AXYs are identical pickups in different shells.

FatBoys are the same size as AXYs, and both are significantly wider than MXYs. So you would need to enlarge the original MXY routings to make an AXY or a FatBoy fit.

IIRC, they have made a small number of "wide aperture" MXYs, to get a similar effect to FatBoys - not sure if they would still make them.

Perhaps I should also add a reminder that the distance between the screw holes (across the width of the pickups) on MXYs have been known to be different between versions.

IIRC, the ones with the deeply embossed Alembic capital letters are sometimes closer together than the ones with the shallower, gilded Alembic script letters.
