I bought this bass about a year ago from a Guitar Center in California. They ahd listed it on eBay and I started to bid on it until I saw an identical listing and a much lower price.
I contacted GC and and actually bought direct from them.
The bass has been showing up ever since in scam ebay and other listings.
This happens to be my favorite to play and I have no plans on selling it.

Here it is at home woth it's bros'

Shoot an email back that says, "Really! Awesome. I'm in London too. When can we meet up so I can see the bass?"

I would love to hear the response to that.

There must be something wrong with your camera, Olie - the e-bay listing clearly stated that this bass has the P/J pickup combination :-).

No that is not the same serial number as mine. But I can assure you that the photo's on the ebay web add are of my bass. They were from Guitar center's ad on ebay from a year ago.

I bet Mica could shed some light on this serial number.

There is no real web site at the address shown on the receipt (www.guitarfactory.biz)... it is just a search engine page for guitars. This could indicate that Guitar factory isn't real.

Mike, HMMMM well I wouldn't want to put fellow player through such stress, that and the fact that this is my favorite bass.

Andrea, this has been going on for at least a year that I know of.

The bass is a little different now. I've added custom knobs with LED's and brass back plates since those photos

It looks like in 1999 Alembic was only in the 12xxx serial number range (judging by what is in the history request forum). I doubt that 99MJ17671 is a real serial number.

Hi Andrea and welcome.

The serial is most definitely fictitious: I doubt if they're up to 17671 now; my Further, finished late 2005, is 13551 and I'm sure Alembic hasn't built over 4000 instruments since then.

We just had a serial number thread not too long ago and as I recall they are somewhere around 14.5K at the moment. The posted serial is a fake.

Keavin, each knob has a watch battry in it. The top (ebony part) screws off to replace the battery. Each has a small set screww on the side to trun them on and off.
These were the first set and as far as I know the only set made by THG.

OLIE'S BASS
Hello again, and thanks for your massive help!
Check out the seller's reply to my questions: "Too late, it was picked up by the original buyer this afternoon. I had relisted it and thought I sold it...( to you) but he rang this morning....he saw the ad and must have spurred him on anyway I'm happy and so is he. I have sent you an Ebay notice to recind".
He's trying to find the easy way out.
I hope I can have MICA's word on this serial number, please!

Andrea,
The serial number on the receipt is not valid. Alembic numbers every instrument sequentially and they build less than 1000 instruments per year. Currently 2007 instruments have serial numbers somewhere between 14,000 and 14,500. My 2005 Orion has a serial of 13514. It is there for impossible for a 1999 instrument to have a serial of 17671.
