"Uncle Bob," as we used to call him, is closing his store. I was in there the other day for the first time in about 12 years (moved to NJ.)He had a couple used Alembic Bases and FX1. Only 30 days left.

It will be a sad day when day when he closes. He helped me immensely when I was just out of school and low on capital. He would let us give him a down payment, take the gear and pay him a little bit each week until it was paid off. I bought my first real guitar rig, a PA, a beautiful Taylor Accoustic and my Orion that way. Try to find soemone willing to do that these days.

Rusty, do you happen to have any details about what he had? I might take a run down there if there's something worth seeing at a close-out price, but it's a haul just to go for fun. I hate to see shops like the one you describe go away, but that's where the business has been going over the past 10-15 years. He must have done well and had some loyal customers to last as long as he did.

Sorry, as a guitar player I'm not up to speed on all the models. I know they weren't Series I or II. They were more basic models. The price tag on one was $1700 and change. Honestly, I was a little distracted because I went in there to thank this guy for how he had helped me out so long ago, and to find out he was going out of business was disheartening, but also eerie. The timing was just freaky for me since I hadn't been there in some many years, and I was just happened to be in the neighborhood killing an hour waiting for an appointment. It was not the reunion I had anticipated, though he did remember my name. I asked him whether closing was a good thing or a bad thing, he said it started as bad thing but may turn into a good thing. I thanked him and wished him well.

Heck, Jeff, go check it out then! You never know what you'll see. Maybe he'll have something to help you out with your new rig configuration.

If you get over there and see anything really neat that doesn't suit you, please let us know.

SF-2 for $425 is a great deal that someone should jump on. Jeff, I apologize to your bank account for sending you over there, but I'd have to say you did the right thing! Surprised you didn't grab the SF-2 for your new rig while you were at it.

No website?

I need SF-2.

Hopefully I can call them at 9AM and it'll still be there. Dibs.

My luck isn't running too well, I've been too late for 3 Rickenbackers, an Alembic and a ripping deal on a Modulus in the last month or so.

Ask Bill if he thinks you should have added the SF-2 on top of the F-1X. He's got to be one of they biggest SF-2 fans out there.

Hey, I'm even thinking of adding an SF-2 to my chicken satay recipe! Bradley, you dog, you beat me to it. The other guitar player in my second band (Matt, from the Northern California get together), is looking for one. I was going to call him today and tell him about this one, but he's probably not up until noon and you called it first.

ShimmyFlax: CONGRATS! The bill for my consultation fee is in the mail. hehehehe
P.S. You should've gone for the SF-2. It's a completely different animal from the F-1X. $425 is a good, not great price. $400 - $500 is the range I've seen on ebay.

Really, Bill? Those things have been pretty rare on eBay and I thought that $450-550 was a more typical range. I admit I haven't been watching them finish because I don't need any more knobs to twiddle when things sound so good as is.

I got two of them on ebay in the past couple of years for right around $400/$425 each.

I thought you got both of those real close to two years ago. It seems to me that used Alembic prices have universally risen since then. I am shocked that my F-1X for $400 has gone unsold since they seem to go for at least $450 every time I see one for sale on eBay.

In any case, I hope Unlce Bob appreciates Rusty giving us the heads up and Jeff doing the recon to help him sell off a little more gear.

Uncle Bob seemed to know where I came from, so I'd have to say that he was happy.
