I seem to remember they have more Alembics in stock than they advertize. |

Quite some time ago, they had a number of Rogues and other models listed on their site. Then they all disappeared. As I recall these were new-old-stock. Over time, I think some club members have reported purchasing a couple of 'em. My guess, and it's entirely a guess, is that the basses you saw may be some of those new-old-stock. The serial numbers would tell right away. If they are NOS, maybe they will let them go at substantially less than current prices. It might be interesting to ask them what they have in stock that's not on the floor. |

They should be near today's used prices if they still have those basses. That was two price increases ago and they'll have 02 and 03 serial numbers. |

I spoke with Paul at Chuck's last week based on a post somewhere in the forums at Alembic. He still has a Rogue 4 and a Rogue 5, both figured maple tops (according to him), selling under current dealer price since they are at least a couple years old. I meant to play them and maybe pick up the 5, but decided that I would need to buy a new cabinet to go with the low B and wouldn't want to part with my Essence 4 anyway. So, I can't vouch for condition, but others here have done well by Paul in the past. Actually, having gone through the pricing and online browsing exercise, I've decided that the Essence is exactly the right price point for me (all the quality, the right level of electronics for the average gig, without the luxuries). My only wish is that I had side LEDs for those dark stage corners I get stuck in. |

George, one word - FretFX! I've put them on two of my three Alembics and they're the next best thing to factory LEDs. They're surface mounted on removable adhesive strips and they do the trick nicely. Go to FretFX.com. Mike |

Mike, You know, I've gone as far as actually contacting Roz asking if he has any stock in any stores here in Virginia, but he doesn't go through any dealers. What's strange is that I think I know him. I used to play and run sound in the Norfolk/Va Beach area where fretfx is located. The main thing I'm worried about is how they clean up if they are removed. Not so much the units themselves as much as residue left on the neck of the bass. Any experience with that aspect? Also, the LEDs for fretted necks line up with the location of the fret dot on the fingerboard, but the fretless necks have the LED at the fret location. I wonder whether I'd rather have the fretless spacing... I was taught to fret the string just barely behind the fret rather than smack in the middle between the frets. Thanks, George |

Hi George and welcome! I use to live in downtown Fredericksburg Here's a thread with cleanup remedies for a recently purchased Alembic that had tape and stickers. http://alembic.com/club/messages/394/42052.html?1192527942 (Message edited by artswork99 on October 16, 2007) |

Art, I'm sure we've run into each other then if you left anytime after 1996 when I moved from South Stafford into the city limits. I did my time playing for little or no money doing the folk/rock/blues scene before doing the jazz quartet for the last couple of years. (plus my Sunday morning jazz gig at St George's) I never make it downtown without running into 5 or 6 people I know, so... it's still a small town feel even with the DC sprawl starting to really reach down here. Glad to hear from you! - Geo |

George No I haven't removed a set yet, but Roz says they remove without damage to the instrument. Even if the LED is mid fret, that just matches what you would see on a typical fretted instrument in good lighting (dots or ovals are also mid fret). Just play slightly in front of the LED.
