Hello-

I would like to find a nice, newer, excellent to mint condition Spoiler, 4 string, fretted, 32" scale...

Thanks,

Hi Andy,

Don't know if it's 32" scale but looks in great condition.

I talked to the guys at ABG about that Spoiler. They described it as in nice shape, with a bit of clouding of the finish on the backside. I'm 99% that it was a 32". It sounded like a pretty nice bass. I believe they might entertain offers.

I've checked that very bass out and it's a 34" scale not 32". There is some clouding in the finish but it's still a beauty.

I looked at that one too... Yeah, 32" is a must for me. Also, it appears that the pickups are mismatched if you look closely at the Alembic logo... I don't why that is.

Thanks,

Andy

Are you sure it's a 34"? 32" is standard on a Spoiler. The upper horn on this one seems to join the neck at the same fret as on a 32" (21st). And the neck pickup is set further away from the neck than on most Spoilers.

There are some 34 inch scale Spoilers around (also in Holland) ;-)

I only got to play this bass acousticaly and that E string sustained better and longer than my old '86 Distillate(which is a 32" scale and sold it for that reason). This is a '97 model I believe(trying to remember the serial#) so it's definitely custom, as I believe they were discontinued as a production model way before this was built. I could be wrong though.......

I saw one at Guitar Center in Nashville today. It was hanging up high, time was limited so I did'nt get to check it out but this is wahat I could see. Seems to be early'80s, maple body maybe but I'm not sure. It was a light colored top wood though with a good amount of player's wear under the bridge p/up. It could use a good cleaning and they're asking $1699.00
A bit much I think for the kind of wear that's on it so if you're interested you could use that to chew them down a couple hundred or so. Good luck anyways!

I email Atlanta Bass Gallery and he said it is a 32" scale. Can you speak to more of it's exact condition from what you recall? Near mint, very good, or? Cloudying on the back of the bass - you mean like a scratching or a finish wear?

Thanks,

Andy

When I spoke to the guy in Atlanta (by phone), he described the finish on the back as having a patch or two that had begun to look lightly milky. Some of the older finishes get that.

Hang in there. The right one will show up. Actually, there have been some nice Spoilers on sale in the past month or two. Good luck.

There's an '83 Spoiler over at Rumble Seat Music - scroll down near the bottom of the page under "other cool basses".
