Questions about value always draw some heat here. I owned a Europa for a while and think that this was the neighborhood of what I paid (and sold it for). And that one didn't have any LEDs.

The Alembic market right now is a bit of a buyer's market, but this still looks reasonable to me. Others?

Am I mistaken for reading the serial number as a '94 model? How'd you like your Europa and what did swap it for, dw?

I picked up Doc Greene's white Europa for a project. Loved it but sold it to another member when I had a chance to buy a former COTM with Signature electronics and LEDs. If my memory is correct about what I paid (just a shade below what this one is listed for), this one is well priced. I would expect Doc or someone else with a better handle on values to jump in on this.

I've been watching that one for a while, its been listed a few times but no bids.

If I hadn't bought an elan recently I'd probably be bidding on it.

Yep, but could it be a hijacked account? That part I quoted looks kind of odd I think... (?)

Pat's got a pretty wild sense of humor, it sounds like something he'd write.

That's Pat.
This is atleast the third time he's run the auction.
(with lower price each time)
That opening bid would make a good price for this bass.

I completely missed all these posts. I sold the Europa the day before I went to Padre Island for a week. My son actually had to ship it for me because I was on the beach before the payment cleared. Someone did hijack my ad and put that stuff in there and I had to change my passwords and everything. Still don't know how that happened. I did list the bass several times and got no bids, although at times there were as many as 700 views and 25 "watchers". I actually lost money on this sale, but I wasn't playing it anymore. Reason? I'm getting old. I'm not in good physical shape. I'm overweight. Translation? 15 minutes of playing time w/this bass, and my back was killing me to point I'd be having spasms! This bass was one heavy son of a gun. I just can't play heavy basses anymore. They kill me. I used to think people who asked about the weight of basses on mine and others' auctions were idiots. Now, I understand. When you get old, heavy basses just wear you down to the point you don't want to play anymore. So, other than my Surine Quest Performaxe "X" fretless 5 string which is really heavy, I've gone toward my Fenders, Sadowsky's and Benavente's which are all under 9 pounds and much easier on my back. Thanks for all the interest and kind words. Even though I no longer own any Alembics for the first time in 7 years, I'm still an interested member.

That's kind of ironic Pat. You actually out bid me on eBay for the first Alembic I tried to buy, a Mark King model.
And even taunted me a little when I emailed you about a second chance offer I got from a scammer.

I hear you on the weight factor, the Alembics are HEAVY but man do they play and sound great. I'm only in my mid 40's so hopefuly I'll be able to hadnle these monsters a few more years before I have to use a stool.

Pat, sorry about the back. I've had a few off-board discussions with another member with back problems. I have some ideas (even made a prototype) of a strap system that puts most of the weight on your hips and uses a shoulder strap only to keep the bass body in an upright position. Let me know if you are interested in seeing some pics.
