Here is the link: http://neworleans.craigslist.org/msg/406856876.html I'm interested in buying this bass if the deal is good. Does anyone have information on this Bass? Does this belong to a forum member? |

Daniel - someone sent that link along to me too. I also live in Metairie. I am going to pass on that one because of it's body style. I like em little! I have no idea who it belongs to. Michael |

Someone named Todd. His email address says NOLATekSales. Have you ever heard of this? |

Could it be from Todd's? I'm just thinking out loud. I am also looking at Adam's (2400wattman)old Series 1. So I'm trying to compare deals. (Message edited by dtrice on August 30, 2007) |

No, I don't think it's that Todd. His email address is different than the one who sent me the email. I've seen that email address somewhere before, that's why I don't trust it. I just can't remember why. |

Daniel - I saw it too and wrote to Todd. There is a company 50 miles south of New Orleans called Nolatek at http://www.nolatek.com/. Looks like Todd may work for them from that email... though they do have their own email suffix @nolatek.com. Art |

Oh, I see. I was confused because that company isn't an instrument dealer. That's why I felt funny when the guy told me that the bass was at the store (I assume NolaTek). |

I asked a few questions and haven't heard back from Todd yet... any idea what he's looking to get for it? In the email Todd sent he was asking for offers and said it was a 1997. (Message edited by artswork99 on August 30, 2007) |

Todd has an "ANTIQUES, ART, FURNITURE, COLLECTABLES AND NEW ORLEANS ITEMS OF INTEREST" store in New Orleans. So the initial guess of the company Nolatek was incorrect. Art |

I won't buy it anyway. He tried to explain to me the value of a new series 1. He tried to lecture to me the value of Alembics and said that we would not entertain a bid of less than $8,000. So I just laughed at him. |

I wonder if Todd will even sell it... Did you notice that 97 Series II that went for 4K on eBay? (Message edited by artswork99 on August 31, 2007) |

No one in Louisiana will probably buy it. No one here will buy the brand new $2,000 Les Pauls, so they won't buy an $8,000 anything. He said he was going to donate it to charity for the tax write off. |

I mean his whole superior attitude and things really just put me off. I don't think I would buy from him just because of his attitude. He is obviously not a forum member. |

"He said he was going to donate it to charity for the tax write off." Someone better explain depreciation to that guy, or he'll get a nasty surprise from the IRS. Can you imagine finding something like that in your local Goodwill store? |

Maybe we can get him collecting and understanding Alembic. |

You got the right idea, Steve. He doesn't seem like the kind of guy who knows a lot, but thinks he's smarter than everyone else. |

He doesn't want to. He doesn't even play the bass. He is interested in selling it for money, not to afford a new instrument. If he was interested in Alembic, he wouldn't be talking about selling his for an unpractical price, holding onto it for twenty (because he expects the bass to magically skyrocket in value)telling me that Alembic told him the value of his bass (which Alembic doesn't do for used instruments), and then getting mad and deciding to "donate" it instead of selling to someone who really is interested in it. It's ok, though. I even showed him that equivalent prices of similar Series 1 basses for sale and explained that his asking price was way above the scale. I did everything I thought to do to get him to reconsider, but hey now any forum member who is looking for a used Series 1 bass and is willing to pay $8,000-$10,000 (he said expected to sell it for $10,000) for it can do it! I totally agree that 8-10K on an outright sale is ludicrous. I'll bet what Alembic has told Todd about is the Custom Quote tool which is where he is coming up with his dollar figure. I believe that he will be more realistic about it if he plans to sell it outright. He may arrange to have it played and photographed with a "name" and then donate it to a charitable musicians organization, which he says there are many in the area. I'm sure that with the ongoing recovery in New Orleans that there are many organizations that would gladly accept it and sell it for the benefit of the charity. He gets the write-off and the charity benefits from whatever it brings to them. My conversations with him have been very civil. He's in business and not a member here. I hope that the bass enters back into this Alembic community. (Message edited by artswork99 on August 31, 2007) |

Yeah, I would have definately bought it cash if the price had been right. I doubt he will reconsider his asking price, but if he does bring it down...I'll have a Series 1. |
